When to request user info in survey?

This is my first post so please advise if my question is better suited for a different section on this forum.

My business (B2B) created an online survey to be used for lead generation and to show potential customer why they need our services. We need to collect some user information (name, email, company) for lead generation and I am wondering if there is a general rule for at what point to request user information.

The user info could be requested at the welcome page of the survey before the first question, or at the end of the survey before results are displayed. This information could also be required for the user to proceed, or simply be requested and not required.

My thought is to require this information from the user at the start of the survey, that way we will have contact info for every person who takes the survey. If the user information were to be required at the end of the survey before results are displayed the user may end up feeling trapped and leave the page.

Is there a proper point when the user information should be requested in the survey?
    Thank you.

I believe this answers your question. I bailed out on surveys, sign-ups and what-nots several times when they would ask me to share my personal info with them at the end. You will have quite a few pissed off users if they have to respond to something like 50 questions only to find out at the end that they have been taken advantage of by your service.

I think it depends on what your offering as far as results on whether or not you can put the opt-in at the end. Whatever you do be sure to be honest about what you will and will not do with their information. Generally, you will get better leads if you put the information up front.

Maybe try an explanation at the start of the survey, when you take their information stating that the survey results will be emailed to them. That way you get their info up front and they know why you need the info.
