Greetings all, A while back I posted some questions regarding selling ebooks and got so many responses that it was obvious that there was a lot of knowledgable people here regarding writing/selling ebooks. I have yet another question. I know there are systems available that will shroud the URL of your ebook downoad so people cannot just give away the URL (and my other thread went all through the plusses and minuses of trying to protect your content). My question is related. I am not up on all of the options for PDF's, but I thought I heard there was a way (if you had the expensive Adobe Acrobat) to place a "lock" on the PDF so others cannot edit it (and I also heard it is really easy to get around). When you publish your PDFs online, do you just create the PDF and post it as is? Or is there some "minimal" level of locking, etc. that you do on the file? I THINK people mostly just post the raw PDF (with some sort of URL shrouding system), but I'd like some input on this. Thanks in advance!
If it weren't for the holiday season I'd red rep you for that. In order to acces the content on those pages you have to be a subscriber at wmw... Please do not post links to resources that are non free, since it would be somewhat the same as advertising a product,at least make a short article presenting the main points.
From the link I posted above: Again, this is from: http://www.webmasterworld.com/forum36/1836.htm (not sure why I can see the page and some cant).
Just wanted to thank everyone for their responses. Sadly, I cannot see that post either. Registration may be "free" (harr-harr), but I don't give out my email address so people can spam it to death. That forum may be more responsible, but for one visit for one post I'm afraid I won't be handing over my email address (and I am feeling lazy and don't want to create yet ANOTHER throw-away address). The watermark idea looks pretty good to me. I'll look into it more. Might deter the "casual" hacker...which is all I'm really after anyway. I know the book will be passed around....I would just like to slow the onslaught a bit if I can. Thanks again!
