If you knew what the typical user base of craigslist is like, the truth is that they would not make that much compared to how much traffic they have. Craigslist has a very "anti-corporate" userbase. They would not respond well to ads. Ads will never be put up on craigslist, I can assure you that.

Seriously, that's the stupidest thing I've ever heard. Learn a little about the people who use craiglists. You don't know what you're talking about. If craiglists posted commercial ads on their site, there would be an uprising. Craiglists users even flag down classified posts that advertise Wii and PS3s for more than their MSRP because they think making profit on something is "immoral." You don't know what you're talking about.
Well, in that case, they have dug themselves into a hole they probably now wish they hadn't. I have read a few of their investors are pretty damn angry that their CEO won't budge on the issue of incorporating ads into their site.
I understand what you're saying, but it's not that stupid of a thing to say. I use craigslist occasionally and know of others who do as well. My sister moved to California and used it to find roommates. Neither of us, nor anyone else I know who's used it, falls under your "typical craigslist user". I think it would do well and any "uprising" would fail. Craigslist is too popular among EVERYBODY at this point to fail just because they want to make a little profit. So, I'd calm down and stop calling people stupid when we do know what we're talking about. He's right when he says it's all basically advertisements.
