Q for those who employ content writers

Discussion in 'General Business' started by Senobia, Sep 2, 2014.

Lately I'm seeing a lot of 'writers wanted' threads on DP that include something like, "Must include images within the content - no worries, you can just get them from Google."

I'm wondering if the vast majority of content buyers here at DP think that you really can just lift any image you want to from Google and use it for any purpose you see fit.

I'm also wondering if any content writers here at DP are under the same impression.

    What say you?

I'm so glad you pointed this out. I don't think many people realize that a big percentage of images you find on Google search are copyrighted and, even worse, they can be fined for using them without permission.

Many people have no idea what Creative Commons licensing is, but it's especially mind-blowing to see in a job posting from a client who SHOULD know about these things. Just goes to show that even if you're clueless, you can still own a business.

Hopefully freelancers will stop applying to jobs like these. If the client has no idea about basic image practices, then odds are they won't have basic knowledge about the writing industry, either. And that never makes for a good business relationship.

I always use stock photos or flickr photos that are in the Creative Commons... Never use Google for images unless you're querying specifically for images in the Creative Commons...

Its a very good idea for using Flicker rather than Google. Because most of the Google images are copyrighted. So its better to use Flicker or other image services. They are creative.

Careful....Most photos on Flickr are not creative commons either. You need to restrict you searches to find images which are creative commons. You can do the same thing on Google Images.

    You can also checkout:
    CreativeCommons.Org
    WikiMedia
    PhotoPin

All of them offer a wide variety of creative commons images.

I always do advanced searches. They give you the option to choose both creative commons and images you can freely edit. I check both boxes...

I'm glad was able to read this thread. I do not have any idea about copyrighted images from google. I wrote some articles that requires me to include images. Well of course, the first thing I did was to search google. From now on, will take it from the experts advice of this thread.

Google images are copyrighted, try using flicker or stock photos.
