Is provinding latest news a spam??

I was just wondering that there are good writer's blogs in the travel and living niche. I have a forum too so if i build a subforum calling "Latest news in our world" and post the preview of the articles in that forum along with a no-follow link linked to the original post then. Will it be a spam? & also does it varies with every niche?

Nah that is not classified as spam, it is called news aggregation, it will be "penalized" as duplicated content(It won't rank above the original article), but it probably won't harm your site... Maybe.

Its certainly doesn't identify as a spam, until the news is copied from another site.

My thought is to provide news like "digitalpoint.com", only the preview not the full story.

@Helge Sverre actually pulled off a very good advice there. It wont be called a spam not unless it has duplicates on some other places.

Interesting...so Newspaper websites that print news stories, and all publish the same news story on the same day. They will be 'disliked' by Google because they are all using the same content?

If you ever read two news stories from different sources you can see that they have been rewritten in almost the same way as an SEO would rewrite the same article 100 times, I bet you that every news place has their own people who do nothing but rewrite content from competitors.

As long as you rewrite and not just copy past, then it is not spam.

as for the news release sites, i do believe they've been hit by the Big G, sometime ago http://searchengineland.com/google-panda-4-0-go-press-release-sites-192789 and experts advised to turn the backlinks on Press Releases to No-Follow

You are providing preview and then link to original sources, so there's nothing wrong with it as long as it benefits your visitors and not just to increase page count on your site.

If you add your own commentary with the post, you've got yourself "Content Curation"!

I completely agree. When you read one breaking news story, you have basically read them all. Until new information comes out anyway. They mainly leave in all the trending keyword phrases and spin the post.

It will still be viewed as duplicate content. Google pushes for fresh content no matter how short. I would say if you are posting multiple stories per day to write an original description of the beginning of the story, with 300 to 500 words if possible, and guide them to the full story.

This will help you rank better in search and also help you stand out from the many spun post like mentioned above.

    I hope this helps.

Write a unique description of the story and then embed a video of the news if possible, as you don't want visitors to leave your website and a video will keep them on your web page.
