Yandex Search Engine

    Hello friends,
    I was just wondering if one of you have had any experience with russian search engine called yandex. They look to some extent similar to google. They even have webmaster tools service just like google.

    Would appreciate your remarks on this.

    One of my previous employers tried to break into Eastern Europe and Asian markets for higher conversions, but only succeeded in generating a lot of irrelevant traffic, very high bounce rate and large demands on bandwidth. While most of this traffic was coming from China through Baidu, about 25% of it was through Yandex. If you're looking for traffic, Yandex is great, but if you want the traffic to be engaging, you may be disappointed.

    On another note, we actually had to have our website translated into Russian to get listed on Yandex.

    wow. no wonder they give priorities to russian language sites.
    does baidu also have the similar services? It's all in chinese language.
    Would you mind sharing their 'en' version url (I mean webmaster tools)...

    Actually, it's not difficult to get listed in Baidu, as long as you don't have pornographic content (you can't submit pornographic sites to Baidu). Your whole site doesn't need to be in Chinese, but you do have to have at least one page in Chinese.

    In the past I added my website to Yandex and it got indexed quite well. Now I get about 2K visitors each month from it on my english game related website. The traffic I get have a good bounce compared to the other traffic and the amount of pages they visit is above average. So it's worth it to submit your website(s) even if your website isn't written in russian.

    Fully agree with you. It's normal to see such stats.. Only try ranking for Google, other SE"s are just like a bonus for your hard work! ;)

    It is a popular search engine and it is wise to add your website there.
