Comments on high PR sites that are relevant to your site. Guest/Blog posts. Social media shares help as well. http://backlinko.com/17-untapped-backlink-sources This article is useful in determining PR sites for specific categories and has a few tips as well.
find some good blogs in your niche, determine their pr and make good comment that is not marked spam or removed. You get one backlink even no follow it is worth it.
Network within your niche and try to obtain link. Blog comments, guest posting, outreach to other bloggers, can all be done manually and their effectiveness is good if you are doing it properly.
The website is new and i want to suggest to build relationship with your targeted audience and don't focus on building links because your objective is to provide engaging content for the visitors. An interesting content that is credible to share then rankings and targeted traffic will follow.

I discovered this site yesterday, the author has a series of posts regarding backlinks and also keyword research. Based on what I have seen in his posts this is a super guide to improving your site. Unfortunately, building links is a time consuming effort, but fortunately, one that pays well down the road.
You can make quality links on topical forums, blogs. I love using scoopit. It is easy to get quality backlinks within 15 minutes.
I often write full tutorials for ask.com and add a backlink, I do one or two per website. I also network with other relating websites to request for a backlink article in exchange for a guest post or something of the sort. When it comes to commenting on other blogs, I usually try to link to relative information found on my site that brings additional value to the topic, increasing chances that the comment is not marked as spam. Good luck!
Positive advise, build back links by yourself if you can, no one will care about your website as much as you do, develop back links only from websites related to your website topic and which are strong, offering quality, it is hard to develop these kinds of back links, but better to get few quality back links that can help your website better rank than getting hundreds of low quality links that can penalize your website. Use a variation of keywords and descriptions when building back links as much as you can and avoid duplicating even when building back links.
Just engage your visitors with quality content no matter from where but you can do it by making good relationship in your niche and then using your links there and on different pages of your website you can get good back links plus user engagement which will give you everything. Please do not try to think for link exchange because Google simply hates it.
You mention i have tried some paid SEO stuffs but no good results. Not sure if this is what you mean but if you have paid for links (black hat) you are taking shortcuts and have already potentially put the site you are promoting at risk. If you are in this for the long term you should focus on producing high quality content as suggested already, if you haven't already it's worth reading the quality guidelines section within Google's Webmaster Guidelines (https://support.google.com/webmasters/answer/35769?hl=en). If you are new to link building i would recommend the following book: Ultimate Guide to Link Building: How to Build Backlinks, Authority and Credibility for Your Website, and Increase Click Traffic and Search Ranking
Buying links is highly frowned upon. Getting high quality links is not easy I am new to this industry myself. E-mailing PR 7 sites and proposing some mutual agreement is a good way to go about that. Also, forum posting (if done correctly) will help you. Social media pushes you too. You will eventually find your niche. One thing is to not give up. You don't see results right away but in the long run its worth it!
Currently the best way is to set up your own private blog network or rent links on someone else's. It's the most efficient way to get high quality links pointing to your money site. PM me if you want more information.
