Marketing an intentionally bad product / idea?

Hello everyone. I'm trying to do something a little different. I've created a website for a product that doesn't make much sense or have much use. The description of the product and it's uses is humorous. I'm not actually trying to sell the product itself, I mean you can actually buy it on the site if you wanted to. I'm trying to get people to view the website in hopes to eventually monetize it with advertising. The website is created and I'm currently in the process of finishing up an advertisement for the product that will go on youtube.

I've also created a blog that tracks these bad ideas and reports on revenue taken in from these sites. I'm focusing on trying to drive traffic to the blog, which should in turn drive traffic to the "bad product" sites. I'm running into issues trying to drive traffic. Does anyone have an good ideas on driving traffic to such a site?

I would include the names of the websites but I don't want to be viewed as a spammer since this is my first post.

    Thank you,
    Tom

Sounds sketchy. Sounds like it could work, or could NOT work. but i would choose a totally different business idea altogether.

True, but that thought process could be applied to any blog or website. Anything could, or could NOT work. But you don't know until you try, right? So I'm giving it a go! :)

Brilliant. Now that every businesses have problems you could easily start and write something about each. Keep updating us about traffic and stats. Could be a test on how projects do.

It's very possible for this b. idea to work, but it has a lot to do with the overall trend of the approximate t. audience. Just make it easy to surf through your stuff there, and the buying processing with as few clicks required possible.

Well, so far it's not going so well. I get spikes of traffic when I make a new post but no subscribers and no one visits the website for the product from the blog.

I wouldn't be relying on repeat visitors, but if your site is funny it could go viral and do well for a reasonable length of time. I know I've found funny stuff and mentioned it to the kids and they've seen it months earlier. That gives you a sustained amount of traffic which is good.

Though I'm not really for your idea, but hey this is the internet - anything works.

Create a Facebook page for it - at least it is easier for people to share stuff. Do some SEO and target the right product keywords/phrases.

    Try to post EVERYDAY!

Apart from posting the information or articles, also make sure to post some interesting updates that will help in holding the attention of the visitors.

I think I'm putting this on hold for now. It has failed to gain any momentum. I'm not giving up on it, just taking a break. I'm working on another website that I think will get faster results. Once the new one gets some steam I'll return to working on the bad product idea.
