How many projects do you juggle at once?

I told myself I was going to focus on one project exclusively until it started making money. But being the creative person that I am, I feel like I need to change things up every so often or I tend to burn myself out.

Unless it's something I absolutely LOVE to blog about or talk about, I can't find myself devoting 110% of my energy on. And I haven't found that subject yet.

So, how do you guys juggle your time? I figured 3 different projects would be a good starting point to tackle. And for the sake of the discussion, nothing is being outsourced.

 

I really tend to have balance a lot of projects at once. I am someone who does not like being held back on a single project unless it has countless different things for me to do. I prefer to have something where I am able to sink my teeth into many different factors.

 

i tend to stick to one big project, but with a bunch of mini projects to get away from it and keep myself interested. However i often end up taking on too much! I think 3 is a good number - just enough to keep busy while not getting overwhelmed.

 

There's three projects I work with at work, there's a blog I run on the side, and there's a small start-up t-shirt company I'm working on with some old friends, but that's more of a hobby.

 

From a contractors point-of-view, I've had a business adviser tell me 6 to 7 clients is an ideal number. I don't think he meant 6 or 7 active project going at once, though.

 

Few projects at the same time

 

It's one project right now. Previously it could be up to 5 at the same time.

 

Right now I'm juggling 4~ projects
2 of which has to be created from scratch(www.LanceBilling.com and www.WebMasterCourse.net)
the rest is my blog and a freelance project.

 

I never have one project going at once, I normally have about a dozen going at the same time, and yes it is bloody difficult to keep track o them all and devote equal time to them all, especially so when you consider I do ALL the work myself and outsource none of it. I am in the process of cutting down on the amount of projects I'm working on by killing off the lower paying ones in the hope that I can devote even more time to the remaining ones and make more money with them.

 

I think 3 is a nice number for optimal results.

 

Usually two. One heavy and one easy one. That's all I can do, it seems like.

Concentrate your energy on advertising. I usually spend half of my day promoting stuff. The rest goes to whatever project I may have.

 

Anyone trying to make money on the internet should have at least two or three backup plans. I'd say have four projects going at a minimum.

 

Seems reasonable. Well, if one project doesn't pay enough (in many cases it doesn't), then there is simply no other choice than to run more projects.
In case if the one and only project provides you enough money, then running additional projects could be just useful to strengthen some alternative skills or get additional experience. So yes, when time allows, I'll be looking for something else as a side project.

 

If you want to make nice income then 1 project is not enough. I am currently working on 7 projects and 2 are started from Scratch.

 

I agree with you to handle 3 different projects because based on your personality, you will certainly be bored for just 1 project.

Let your time boundaries guide your activities. In reality, there's a hidden benefit of knowing your time boundaries. It will help you to make choices about how you'll proceed to your next projects.

Let say that you will be overwhelmed by working on 3 projects, stop and reconsider. Review your priorities. Don't be hesitate to withdraw any projects that don’t make sense to you. Lastly, use a sequential focus with time boundaries to motivate you to finish projects in the time you’ve chosen.

 

For me, 3 projects are a good number.

 

One big and juicy one and few small ones. Sometimes with many because there are times when I hire SEO starters and I can handle more than 20 or 30.

 

I also think the key is to always be looking for that next good project.

 

Sometimes it is not about the quantity, but the quality as well. Don't let low quality projects (after calculating trade offs) pull you down.
