How to Gain eCommerce Experience?

Does anyone have any suggestions on how to boost knowledge and experience of working with eCommerce-Project Management? My daytime profession is as a project manager for a major corporation specializing in Electricity Production. I've been looking to switch industries and project manage for other companies for some time now, but most of the companies I have an interest in are only looking for Project Managers with eCommerce Experience. Any suggestions, or reputable places to gain some training/experience without working for a company using eCommerce would be greatly appreciated.

All the advice in here is really spot-on.

When it comes to getting this kind of experience in the way that you're talking about wanting to do it, you've really got two options:

    1) Set up some eCommerce projects and manage them all on your own. With the Internet being the way it is these days, it's actually pretty easy to do this all on your own.

    2) Teach yourself using the resources available on the Internet. The blogs mentioned, ebooks, whitepapers, webinars -- there are a TON of free materials that you can find on the Internet that'll help you become something of an armchair eCommerce expert almost overnight.

Of course, you might have to spend a bit of money on materials as you educate yourself...but the Internet makes it easier to do stuff like this than it's ever been before.

Hope this helps! Happy selling. :)
