After seeing this post on DP https://forums.digitalpoint.com/thr...works-coding-languages.2719577/#post-18960921 I checked out the blog and came across this post http://blog.moonsearch.com/objectivity-of-web-rankings/ It discusses the general question about how objective rankings are, and how there's actually a problem in the Internet when it comes to those rankings. PageRank isn't perfect because people try to find loopholes to bump theirs up. Alexa ranking isn't perfect because not everybody has their toolbar, and those who do might just not like visiting sites in a particular niche. Other rankings seem to just try to combine existing numbers into something "new" What do you guys think? CAN there be a truly objective ranking, and if not, what's the closest we've come to "objective". Which rank is most important for you? My answer: Well, moonrank is handy, but also the Moz rank.
None of these rankings can be viewed as "objective". Just ask any of those ranking companies -- nobody is gonna uncover their secret algorithms. They don't let even most of their own employees know. As for rankings use, I don't pay any attention to various PA, DA and stuff, although I do take into serious account Google (as everyone else here, I'm sure). Like it or not, you can't avoid PR in any practice. Alexa is handy with high-traffic sites (though even with them it's often pretty approximate, unless you put their code to your site), but with low- and medium- traffic ones they often shoot into the air. As for this new Moonrank attempt -- it's a nice try, but I don't see any real use of it, unless these guys pump huge money into it and pump it up to the level of Alexa in 2008. What's useful is not new ranking tool, but easy access to real data and stats. We SEO folks are used to evaluate many parameters precisely, and generalized ranking is good for journalism and top-10 blah-blah articles but not for real marketing.
The problem with pretty much all rankings is they are usually 6 mo. to a year behind. So if your site really takes off today and quadruples its traffic it's not going to be reflected anywhere (except the stats in your dashboard) for the next few months.
That's something that has really gotten in the way of helping sites grow and earn money. A spike in interest towards the site is left unnoticed and the advantages are left unused because nobody quite "believes" that you're doing as well as you say you are. Everybody just assumes that you bought your traffic. As for your response, @Karuna17, I both agree and disagree. I think the MoonRank is actually quite useful. Generally speaking, it really does reflect the combination of Alexa rank and PageRank. So, if you don't want to look into all of the details and numbers, the MoonRank will actually give you a pretty good estimate of how the website is doing in terms of influence, popularity, and traffic.
@YJunK, well, I think the thing could be of use if it became a well-know and recognized thing. Ok, lets imagine I meet my fellow marketer and tell him -- hey, that cool new site has a Moonrank of 5! I agree, this gives a hint just about the site having some popularity. But still I need to check it's PR and traffic independently. One more point: as to Moonrank's estimate of traffic -- from their traffic table design it seems they just grab Alexa's data, which's often crappy for low- and medium-traffic sites. So, we finally arrive at the point of guys making a vague ranking which just gives a general image of the domain. In 2014 nobody needs vague images, I prefer to pay some service for detailed stats, that give clear data, not go for guessing, what does that new rank imply
Well, if you're going to be looking for something completely precise and accurate you have to look at all of the numbers. That's a given, no argument there. I'm just talking from a "general interest" point of view, when you want to check out how cool the sites linking to you are. As a "quick glance" backlink checker tool Moonserach and its MoonRank are quite cool.
Well, I can't agree with you on ranking importance, though I really like and use their backlink checker
none of these five things are the important/Objective for the ranking. Because Google, yahoo and bing not depend on these five things. In case of Google, ranking is depends on quality SEO, Google Authorship, Domain Authority, Social Signals and Quality backlinks. So, guys don't consider these five only things are really important to get ranking in Search Engine.
