Does anyone know any good download sites for Gimp templates? I need an A3 sized portfolio template.

There are some good ones out there. I've seen some but found Gimp just too hard to learn and gave up on Gimp. You must have done a Google search for "Gimp template". And Good Luck!

I have searched on Google, but can't find any good ones. Gimp is pretty easy to use once you get started with it. I prefer it to Photoshop

That's because almost all professionals use PS, so you won`t find a high quality template for Gimp. Almost imposible :) Industry standards :D

    # That's true. I don't understand why so many professionals ignore open source software - especially when Photoshop seems to get progressively worse with each new edition.

How does PS get worse? I`m still using CS4 so ... i have no idea. I once installed CS5 just to open a file , and indeed seemed slower.

And about ignoring open source ... what if your client asks for source files.. as PSD? I mean, noone asked for Gimp, only photoshop. Plus you look more professional using PS :D

They have added too many feature - most you will never use. This makes the interface more cluttered and harder to use, and it slows the program down. I think the problem is they need to add more each time to give people a reason to upgrade. Then you end up with change for changes sake, rather than any real improvements.

You can save as a PSD, though it isn't really supported. Clients just ask for PS, because it is all they know. I think showing that you have a greater awareness of the other software packages available in your industry would only make you look more professional.

There is a plugin to convert PSD to gimp from PS but it costs money. Search on google and you could find it.
