No. It don´t work more. Google ignore EVERY manipulative backlink (especially from online directories). If someone don´t agree, I recommend him to study every of Matt Cutt´s word. SEO is not what it used to be. Backlinks (and everything) that can be created by anyone don´t work.
    That´s all.

With a tiny handful of exceptions (for example, the Yahoo! directory), submission to directories is a waste of time. Even worse, if done too much, it will increasingly give you an unnatural link profile.

I`m also curious whether the links submitted to the directories go live? How long does it take them to appear in the directory list?

Index submissions is still essential however it is advisable to distribute your information only within high PUBLIC REALTIONS as well as top quality web-sites and become make certain to choose correct groups whilst distribution.

Directory submissions from spam sites won't work anymore, it is considered as a link farm so they don't give any value. However, there are exceptions to the rule, most places where you get citations can be considered as directories too, and they give much value if you are doing local seo.

Did you just spinned "Directory submissions" that's why I'm reading it as "Index submissions"? LOL

Directory submission still works. You need to follow good directories with high PR.
