Please read this very carefully : Forum posting can boost ONLY number of your visitors who came from that forum (the best is if forum is same category as your niche).
But it can increase only number of your visitors, not Google rankings. I hope you are not one of people who think that forum posting is SEO teqnique that really work. It is spam. Nothing more. Think like Google. They are trying to offer for searchers as relevant search results as is possible. And web that have got only hunderts of spammy forum backlinks can't rank well. They aren't stup... silly. They know that lot of people try to affect their ranking by forum posting. Do you think that Google web spam team is overlooking this ? Do you think that they don't wrote to their algorithm few lines to ignore this backlinks ?

This backlinks are pretty hard to see for robots. Do you think that all the links on all the forums are spam? That is not truth. It can be pretty nice links, that MUST have weight. So do you want to tell that google is ignoring EVERY link? Even perfect? It sounds like a joke.

well, forum posting does work if you do it properly.. (and if you have at least 'OK' list), I had 3 clients in 2014 that I SEOed only using forums

Now this is something extreme you are talking about I agree with you that proper use of forums can prove fruitful. But I think saying SEOed only using is something that I can't totally agree upon.

I completely agree with Garry_West, forum posting can bring only traffic to your site, but you should do much more to make them stay on it, share it with friends or bookmark

Pretty hard to see for robots ? To see link is difficult ? Backlink from forum can make EVERYONE. And you think that forum backlinks can help someone ?
It doesn´t make a sense. Few years ago, when Google accepted EVERY backlink, yes. But now ?

Yes, forum links can be helpful. Why not? Anyway you were talking about Google rankings. Tell me, even if forum links would give me only traffic to my site and no more, this traffic wouldn't increase Google rankings? Are you kiddin?

Just in this way, but not much. 50 visits (more it would´n be, I bet on) don´t help a lot, and, Google knows where is traffic from. And lot of people are clicking to links just because they are curious, so traffic from forums aren´t so serius.

Forum sites are created to provide useful information to the people that are specialized from their respective field and regarding traffic I think it is not helpful and there are other platforms that can help you to increase traffic from targeted audience.

Depends on forum, depends on content with link inside, depends on site.
You gave me an idea to try to make such a case. Getting traffic from forum-marketing strategy. It can work. Like an experiment. Working on business presentations using the relevant forums, high quality content would bring us the traffic we need. I believe that, but the question is that to prove that we need this kind of experience. Maybe soon I'll try that one.

In my terms forums is basically sharing info for a specific topic or category. SEO persons are looking forums for strong backlinks or visitors. If you want something to share use forums but don't look forward for SEO workout !!!
