It is depends upon the features you want to include in your website. I will go for the prestashop. As so many of our client find it easy to use if it build correctly.

Yeah I couldn't agree more. Just wish EVERY extension that you need didn't cost money. like the bing merchant center extension :(

it's really pennies on the dollar when you factor in paying monthly for the big dogs. I'm going to build my whole site for around $300 and thats with all extensions and graphics

Opencart here too. A lot of the extensions I buy are only like $10 to $45 for something I may get quoted a few hundred for if I try to hire a coder to make customizations for me.

Just built this site with a few extensions, a theme from themeforest and some help from guys here in the coding section to make a custom menu.

If you consider opencart, try abantecart. It is similar in architecture but has much better UI and more features. As for prestashop, it is messy.

I wouldn't say that PrestaShop is messy at all, quite contrary - most things are pretty straightforward and it has a very low learning curve. Moreover its community is very helpful and there are very nice free plugins if you want to get your costs done. I had a friend with absolutely no experience in any site-building software building and launching a shop for less than 3 weeks. So complication is definitely not an issue for PrestaShop.

+1 for AbanteCart tho, as mentioned it is very similar to OpenCart and I expect an even greater future for it.

At the end of the day I can't say OpenCart is worse, nothing of the kind, but I certainly wouldn't claim that its better than Presta - it really comes down on personal experiences and which one feels better for the particular person using it ;)

The free custom HTML box is extremely useful for adding your own content or designing something via HTML and implementing it without a hassle. We use ours to add all of our advertisements for our products and specials and we also put our paypal bill me later promo there as well. Pretty useful if I do say so myself! :)
