How to get started on Wedding Blog?

    Hi all,

My wedding is in 13 months and I'd love to win some wedding comps. i've heard this is much more likely if you have a blog and can offer free advertising/ reviews etc. So I have a ton of ideas for posts anyway, based on my planning process, and am looking at the cheapest and best way to get this online. I would prefer to do this for free obviously, but I heard it's harder to get readers that way, plus you're limited on customisation and domain name etc.

Can anyone recommend the cheapest way to start and run a blog? I only really want it for a year until my wedding.

To get comps, it takes a LOT of hard work. You need tons of content. I would go with Weebly to build your blog, since they have a super easy platform for beginners. Wix is also another good choice.

It really depends on what amount of money is "cheap" for you.

To build a successful blog, all you need is:
    1. Domain Name
    2. Hosting
    3. Blogging Platform
THe price for a Domain Name will vary. The price will depend on the Domain Name Extension - .com, .net, .org, .info, .us, .biz, etc.

Usually the .com domain names are the most expensive ones.

You can buy a .com Domain Name for about $12 - $15 from Godaddy.com or any other Domain Name Registrars. Other Domain Name Extensions are cheaper. The cheapest ones I've seen are .info and .us. Take note that you pay for a Domain Name Yearly.

Then you will need to buy a Hosting Service. This will depend on what type of Hosting you want to use. To get started you should go with the Basic Hosting of course.

You can buy hosting for about $10 a month from Hostgator.com. You might be able to find a bit cheaper Hosting Services Online.

I personally think the Hostgator.com Baby Plan for $10 a month is a good way to get started - and that is pretty much all you need.

If you start getting thousands of visitors to your blog daily then you will have to pay a lot more for Hosting. But that would take you a while.

Now lets look at how much you would have to spend to start building your Wedding Blog...

Domain Name (depending on what you go with) - from $3 to $15 a Year.
    Hosting Service - $10 a month from Hostgator.com

Your total would be about $25 or less to get started. And then about $10 a month for hosting

There are a lot more things you should invest on - if you want to build a successful money making blog online.

Just remember that you get what you pay for. If you go the free route then be aware of what that brings.

So... the conclusion is that it would take you $10 a month and the yearly domain name fee - to run a blog online.

Building a successful blog online is not hard - and neither is a challenge. I teach all about blogging every day to people - so I know how it all works and trust me - it is not rocket science!

I hope these tips help you! :)

I wish you the best success! ... and congratulations on the wedding .. in advance! ;)

    Cheers!

Hey ..i preffer Blogger over wordpress ...customization and blog management is easier and more simple ... First you have to brainstorm for your ideas ...Then you have to come up with a unique name which should be simple (4 to 10 word max).. then all you have to do is find yourself a perfect template which works best for your blog , then you have to buy a domain and then just market your work with the help of social media websites like facebook etc . :) best of luck ...

You won't be able to offer free (banner) advertising on WP.com. You'd have to go for self-hosted. This is the only thing Blogspot is better for - it's free AND allows ads.

Absolutely. But to be frank, s/he's in it for the freebies for the wedding, so the future isn't really the issue beyond the next 13 months. And anyone who thinks they'll have time to update while preparing a wedding is either VERY organised or just hoping. ;)
