Does forum participation triggers spamming?

    Hey DP members,
I am stuck in the middle of nowhere, please show us some way.
We were hit by the manual penalty previously, so we came down to the process of link removal and has managed to removed most of the links and again submitted for the reconsideration request. We were pretty much sure that this time we are going to get ourself free by the bars of the penalty but the message we received from Google completely get us shocked i.e still unnatural links are pointing to your site. But what the major shock is on the sample links they have notified the names of forums and trust me I have checked their PA,DA,PR, niche every thing was just more than perfect. I don't know what the problem is but Google sees the forum profile we have created as spam and the major shock is we haven't participated in any of the post their just a profile is being created and in the homepage we have put on our homepage URL. Now my major concern here is does links from the forum signature panel or homepage triggers spamming? How can I know which forum is harmful or Good? The Whole time I was thinking that forum participation is good, for getting good backlink from the signature panel but after this I have just nothing left to say.

Well, if I am reading that correctly you are not participating in forums. You simply join them and set up your profile. That is spam and has been for years. You sorta answered your own question. That is no different from blog commenting, largely blank or useless web 2.X web properties, link wheels and so on.

    And again I say...
"It is googles job to return the most relevant result for x query. In order to rank well you have to make the site actually relevant."

Its important to note some geo considerations these days. Certainly as it pertains to implicit and explicit queries. Google is getting pretty darn good about figuring out what is that folks mean when they search for something. Let alone where you are for instance.

Thanks @Nigel Lew for pointing out the mistake I was doing actually while the forum link I am talking about is way too older i.e. some other people were working on that, but as now I have the rights of the site so, while on the link removal process I kind of think that what bad that is going to do... and left those links unchecked. I really appreciate your help @Nigel Lew your truly a saviour.

I was thinking about this when I got up. Not sure why really but weekly I have been mulling things over like this and it never fails that MOZ addresses exactly what i have been talking about on Friday.

Folks around here are always talking about blog commenting and forum related activities for direct SEO purposes or, simply getting a link. This is entirely wrong.

Where folks seem to miss the boat is in the pretext or intent. You do not comment, create profiles etc. for a link. You should use your real name and not drop links arbitrarily for the purpose of having one.

You comment and participate in forums for recognition. Trust me. The favor ultimately will get returned and what you wind up with is much more valuable.

Rather than simply a link, you now have relevant and merit based exposure, will wind up having folks commenting on or talking about your property and so on.

That may be a tad over simplified and I will try to expand on that later today. I am crazy busy lol...

But hey. Don't take my word for it. You can go straight to the source. What I am specifically referring to gets addressed at around the 5 minute mark. http://moz.com/blog/10-tactics-to-improve-blog-readership-whiteboard-friday

And, if you are not watching these first thing AM every Friday, you need to start doing so. If you have not seen them at all. I would strongly suggest starting from the beginning. Otherwise, chances are, you are "doing it wrong".

And this post was for everyone's benefit. I am not directing that at the op. :)
