Im doing a little pre-market research and wanted to know what you though about the above questions. Just gathering some thoughts. Thanks.
There are no questions "above". Personally I'd be very happy to lend someone a domain or 2 subject to my conditions. But you'd have to be a total mug to want to rent one.
Domain names are pretty cheap to register these days so probably renting a domain name is not something I would consider. I guess if the names are preceived as high value, it may be rentable and may appeal to some. However, I would prefer ownership but that's just my opinion because what if the domain name suddenly grows more valuable and the domain name may just take it away from the renter, kindda like you are at the mercy of the renter. On the other side of the coin, if I were up to no good, renting a domain name would be appealing because I can be totally anonymous when I do something nasty on the web and the domain owner would suffer the consequences.
You can always have a private registration and that solves your identity problem . You may say that we are already "renting" domain names from the registry so why do we need a middle guy? I hate depending on other people. If him/they suddenly change their mind I could remain without a domain. And you keep promoting your website under someone else's domain name which isn't a good idea.
If people are wondering why Im not commenting, its because Im looking for unbiased answers / result (of course it already is bias by placing the "I would be" first and all that, but Im going to ignore it for now).
I currently rent a domain name out to a friend as i used to run a car forum on it and he wanted to start it up again. tbh its been quite a good deal for me as i got $80 for sometheing that cost me a $10 registration fee, however he has let the site go to waste after a few months its probably a bad idea for any of my future traffic or ideas,
Not planning anything yet, just getting a little bit of feedback Have a small outline of some ideas jotted down. Well see what this and then the market research says.
Renting a domain could be a really good idea if it has natural type-in traffic and the price is right. I would not recommend building anything there, though, just redirect the traffic.
i wouldn't rent a domain. it's a security thing i suppose, i just like to know that i own what i'm paying for. hope that helps you out
Most commercial property in the USA is built on leased land. There are lots of good reasons for that; favorable tax treatment, for example. As domains become more valuable I think they will begin being treated more like real estate.
I would rent a domain if it's one I want to keep but I'm not currently using and someone would like to use it. I wouldn't go out of my way to offer it, but if someone asked I'd have no problem with it. To be clear, I meant I'd have no problem renting out one of my own, but no I'd never rent one for myself. I think I read this wrong.
