Improving CTR

I'm trying Amazon ads with hardware related site and I'm satisfied with the results, although I would like to maximize revenue :D

I'm having so far CTR about 1.28%, using Omakase links.
It is a pitty that Omakase are very bad targetted - if I mention some model on page and Amazon has that model in offer I would expect that model shows as Omakase link. But it happend only 20% of time :(. I'm sure it could be 5% if it could fit better to content.

I'm thinking to put some text links and recommended product links.
But I suppose recommended product links cannot have high CTR, only text links which fits into content naturally.

    Tips? Ideas?

Text links as you suggest are one possiblity. Have you tried using "Product Previews" with them?

Also you might try using AWS to "include" your selected product info into the page. Script for this can be pretty basic!

Omakase is actually dictated by the viewers browsing habits, and may display products that are completely different from what you expect. You can always try this by first browsing a completely different product area of Amazon and then go back to your site and compare the Omakase recommendations. I'm sure you are in for a surprise!

Best bet to me is still specific Product Links (a little bit more work, I presume) with the additional Product Preview enabler (script) tucked away at he bottom of your page.

There's a little trick here on how to Create Links While Browsing Amazon.com using your browser's bookmark system which I find very easy and handy to grab those product URLs.

I am constantly using this text-link-product-preview method in my website and splogs product recommendations.

    Hi myhart,

I have existing website with approx. 2000 pages, I cannot add specific product previews to each page manually. I can add text link to specific subdirectory "Buy cheap hardware" more easily, since I have header - footer control with PHP include.

I mean, I could add manually but it would be boring job and it doesn't worth effort probably. Won't pay much since I have approx. 400-800 uniques daily on that site currently. Let's see with 1% of those buying something it would be 4-10 daily, with 5$ each commision = 20-50$ daily. Hm, not bad, huh? Perhaps I should add product previews to each page manually :D . So far my earnings are approx. 2.5$ daily but in fact I'm testing it just few days...

But it can be quite complicated also. If I have 10000 uniques daily I would consider that but not at this moment.

    Hi dinonino,

I've decided not to do specific product links at this moment (a lot of manual job). I think that contentual advertising should be able to determine which fits best to my content.

So far I have Omakase in page header and text link to products subcategory in footer. Sporadically, I will test having extra recommended product links in footer beneath text link.

    Splogs? What is the splog?

    Spam blogs...

btw, my suggestion (for product links) is more for the main landing page of your site, where you add a couple or more recommended product for the week or during seasonal changes.

    Thanks.

Yes, good idea dinodino, is to optimize main page.

I put one biggest "recommended product links" banner to the main page :)

You may be able to obtain a contextual keyword script to use with AWS or Amazon's recommended products? Haven't tried the following script though looks interesting!

Found the following url doing a Google search. Chris Garrett's blog has several articles that I believe you will find interesting! Part 2 discusses detecting the search query to display relevant content.
