I was searching and I noticed this:

    http://www.tribuneindia.com/2001/20010423/biz.htm#1

It was an article about Bill Gates. Read it. They claim Bill Gates is no longer the richest man and that Sam Walton is now richer than him.

One problem though, SAM WALTON HAS BEEN DEAD FOR 15 YEARS.

How can anyone be that stupid and be allowed to write in a newspaper? I'm not from India, so I wouldn't know, but I found this hard to believe.

Sam Robson Walton is the Walmart founder's son . It is he whom they were referring to .

I figured they confused him with his dad.

But the problem is, Sam Walton had 4 kids, and the fortune is split 4 ways, so the article is still incorrect. They are attributing ALL the Walmart wealth to one man, but the truth is that it's split 5 ways (4 kids and the wife). This is still a huge mistake.

The Waltons never passed up Bill Gates. They never even came close. That newspaper article is combining the wealth of ALL the Walton kids. That is misleading. It's just bad journalism.

You are perfectly correct, MrPoloShirt, when you say that they combined the wealth of all the Walton kids.:)
The Tribune's article came sourced that fact from the Sunday Times newspaper. The report was erroneous

Here is a Forbes report which would clear it.
    http://www.forbes.com/2001/04/26/0426gates.html

Both the newspapers are at fault here.

Yet another reason why socialist countries shouldn't write about American capitalists...they don't know what they're talking about.

Leave it to American Forbes to clear up the ignorance and misinformation.
