Shopping carts - I know, I know

I know this has been asked a million times, but I can never seem to find a straight up option. I need a shopping cart for a few ecommerce stores. Each store is going to have less than 30 products. Whats important is security, SEO (mod must be available), and ease of use. Here are the options:
    • Oscommerce
    • CubeCart
    • CRE Loaded
    • X-Cart
    • CS-Cart
    • Others?

Which do you think is the best for my applications? Thanks DP.

I'm right there with you - I have yet to find one that satisfies all my requirements.

I'm curious to see what the guys at freecsscart.com will come up with.

Guys the only one on that list that I have tested to any extent is cubecart.

V3 is a very secure installation for instant downloads. It also supports traditional order taking. It can combine instant e-delivery and shipped items on the same order.

It is one big set of scripts to upload but worked "right out of the box".

Will try to answer any questions.

I am VERY familiar with CubeCart as well. Used to make skins for it and post on the forums. One thing I didnt like about CC was the lack of QUALITY skins and coders. They all seemed kinda cheesy. Maybe thats changed in the last few months. The other thing I didnt like about CC, was the fact that if you installed a MOD and an updated version of the cart came out, you had to reinstall the mod (which is a ton of copy and pasting into the source code).

drig, you want security and everyone keeps mentioning osCommerce. I find that hilarious since it has security problems and it never has any updates and hardly any security patches. You would be better off with Zen-Cart since it has everything osCommerce is missing and is not made up with a bunch of buggy, insecure contributions like CRE Loaded is. Zen-Cart also has frequent updated features and security patches.

In reality if you want good security, no open-source PHP cart I have seen fits the bill. Not that there is anything wrong with PHP, it just that I have not seen anything good done with it as far as open source shopping carts go.

For good security you need encryption and admin login authorization levels like you will find in a very well programmed shopping cart called SoftSlate Commerce. It is Java and has an MVC architecture and is built on JSP, Struts, and Hibernate. The administration is laid out perfectly where you can easily search and filter products, categories, attributes and options any way you see fit. They have a nice feature where you can go through a tabular listing of products and update prices and other data easily without a lot of clicking and saving. See it at http://www.softslate.com (It is free to use for 100 items or less, but you don't get Java source code to change any business logic. You can edit the JSP templates though.)

Now another good choice would probably be ASP.Net stores as far as security goes. You should check out AspDotNetStoreFront.com

I like CS-CART but does it encrypt customer data? Does it have different levels of login authorization?

Volusion looks to have good security and I like what they have done with it. Nice Admin, but it lacks cross selling and I think it is ASP classic ewwww.

Personally I don't like OSCommerce, I can't really put my finger on it but it looks somewhat unprofessional and I avoid shopping on sites that use it.

My shop online is using a e-commerce program which is pupular in China. It includeds order management, delivery management..even SEO designed inside which let spider easy to find you. It has built in Paypal, checkout, world pay,moneybooker...as payment method. The last point is it is free program!

Before I set up my shop online, I did many research on e-commerce. Finally, i choose this one. Compare to the same level e-commerce program, it save my money at least USD1200 on set-up. And also, it is easy to use.

It is not only a cart, but also a shopping system!

The name is SHOPEX,but all is in Chinese in their website.

Their English version has many language problems and few template support english.

So it took me lots of time to do language job.

    add one point:

It must be installed in environment of ZEND+PHP+MYSQL. And its original program is unopen. People can use it,can design skin template, but cannot change some progame inside.

I'm trying Avactis Shopping Cart now and it seems it's very easy to use for the customers and customize their design for web developers. I just had 30 mins to research it and it was easy to install and customize storefront design. I think my customers will like it. I've explored osCommerce and I guess it will be difficult to use it for my customers and they will call me every day asking how to use it. As I see Avactis has video tutorials for the users explaining everything...

I have the most experience with oscommerce. A pain to tweak at first, but after I gave it another try I was able to make it work and look as I wanted. ANd there are some nifty hacks for it too, so that we can have even more features. And the fact the development community is huge is another bonus.
