Hello, Can someone tell me which of these is the actual physical IP Address? Received: from [192.168.1.7] (198.subnet-69-85-115.ellijay.com. [69.85.115.198] My ex had me arrested based on an email he sent from my email address. The above is from an email he sent to me from Gmail. Below is from the email he sent to himself, from my account. Received: from [69.85.115.198] by web125102.mail.ne1.yahoo.com via HTTP Thank you!
The IP address is the "69.85.115.198" and "198.subnet-69-85-115.ellijay.com" was the host name at the time of connecting. You would need to obtain a subpoena to request records from the ISP ("etcnow.com") to show who was connecting with that IP at the time. Speak to a local lawyer.
A private IP address. It's used internally on a local network for communication and not on the external Internet. Using private IP addresses internally for a home connection allows multiple devices to connect to the Internet, but still have only one external (real world) IP. This doesn't mean much, really, as the average router will randomly allocate an internal IP each time a device is connected to the network (either via wifi or a laptop) and logs are often just kept until the router is turned off/rebooted (due to space). See - http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/IP_address#IPv4_private_addresses
So does this part mean he sent it from a public location, perhaps from an iPhone or iPad?: Received: from [69.85.115.198] by web125102.mail.ne1.yahoo.com via HTTP I sincerely appreciate your expertise.

Yes, to me that looks like a Yahoo! Mail header from an email sent via their Web interface. If it's not too late, edit your post to remove all the personally identifiable content.
hit the "edit" button or just hit the report button and ask the MODS to remove the information for you (ask nicely ) Hope this helps and good luck ! HERE IS AN EXAMPLE : ------
Is anybody going to ask why she was arrested? What a crappy system we live in if someone can get arrested based on some email?
So did your ex actually gain access to your email account or was it done by email spoofing? I thought that most consumer emails were protected against these kinds of attacks already.
I think in some states, it is even a crime for even if you are married or anyone to gain entry to your email without your permission. I do not go very far without logging out of email, and locking down the computer....but if your computer is unlocked, and they know what email platform you use, then it can be just auto-login from there.... So if you can prove that you were at work or someplace at the time the email was sent, then the focus will shift back to him; but you have to prove it.
Got to http://whatismyipaddress.com/traceroute-tool Enter the IP Address of the email. It will give the location. That may be a yahoo data center, so make sure. The header may have another IP and you didn't show it. Either way, it shows the originating location.
Just a wild guess, but I have heard of a good amount of people getting arrested for emails when they had a "no contact order". Also seems like an easy way to set someone up, many ex-spouses know passwords and I doubt most cases would get very investigated(server warrants, internet forensic experts, etc) Most people do not have 20k-50k to drop on a email investigation court case(besides the government).
Boy, that makes it a wild situation. Ostensbily, her Ex slapped her with a restraining order and then spoofed her email to make it look like she was violating the order. Nasty. Hopefully, there are no kids involved in this brouhaha.
Reminds me of the guy who went to jail a couple of months ago for the automated gmail invitation. http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/art...itation-ex-restraining-order-against-him.html
