    Given the massive number of copyright violations, I can't see adsense approving the site.

    if you own the pictures then you can get accepted by adsense, but if you don't own the pictures then you will not be accepted by adsense.

    Nope. If that is going to be your defense in court when you first get sued for a copyright violation, then you are going to be in trouble.

    It can get approval, but you will have to provide image source and license of all images you are using.
    for example:
    Wind turbine in Clean Energy fail image.
    you have to provide license to use this image, name of the owner of that image, and original source of that image.
