    H1 heading tag play good role in seo and we use h1 heading tag in onpage optimization. Can we use more than 2 heading tags, if we use then it can be harmful as seo point of view. ?

    Looking forward for your reply...

    It is good to use single H1 tag for every page of your website.

    Only use one H1 tag for each page, if need arises use H2 or H3 tag. Overuse of H1 tags on same page may affect your SEO.

    Why are you using H1 twice?

    First of all you say "H1 plays a good role in SEO" and I highly doubt that. The H1 tag has been abused by many in the past and its value most probably has been largely devaluated. Secondly, I noticed many WordPress themes (even the default ones) that have automatically embedded an H1 for website title, then again for post titles, i.e. it's very common to have 2 nowadays and people don't even realize. Should these be punished by Google? No.

    Having said this, it's best practise yes to have just 1 H1 tag (then multiple H2/3) and I strongly suggest you stick to this :)

    Because of the use of CSS for page layouts, it's very common to have multiple H1 heading tags, etc. It's what is inside the tags that counts.

    H1 is a tag that you should use ONLY once on a page for best results (put your MAIN keyword inside, but do it as natural as you can!). For a few more keywods, use H2 tags (but don't use more than 3-4 times per page!) ;)

    You should be using only one H1 tag.
    But really you shouldn't be focusing on arbitrary things like H1 tags.
    I have NEVER been worried about that and have had no problem getting top rankings.

    Depending on the amount of content you have its not a terrible thing to have 2 H2 tags, but anymore then that I wouldnt advise it. Also in wordpress there is a problem where they will add more H1 or H2 tags for example your site name they always add the page title as an H1 depending on which wordpress template you are using. But editing the page.php will help you remove that. It does relate to this code:

    <?php if ( is_front_page() ) { ?>
    <h2 class="entry-title"><?php //the_title(); ?></h2>
    <?php } else { ?>
    <h1 class="entry-title"><?php //the_title(); ?></h1>
    <?php } ?>

    Wordpress already used the heading tags more than one time. I do not think that we have use more than 1 heading tag and we get the penalty on a website.
    We can put the heading in a heading tag no doubt on it.

    H1 Tag play important role in Onpage SEO, we can use single H1 tag on a each webpage. If you want you should use H2 tags 2 time.

    That Matt Cutts video lays it all out. YES H1 tags play a role. YES use one for page then go to H2. (we like H3 for content subheads and save H2 for Widget Titles).

    It's more a sort of guideline than an actual rule. :D

    If you're developing a website, yes, using only one H1 tag. If you've accidentally put two on your site, provided the content they enclose is natural and not crammed, it's going to have a negligible effect on SEO at best. Don't get in the habit of intentially using more than one, but if it happens by accident (say, the WP theme you're using is encoded poorly or something) it's not going to make or break your success on the internet - there are other things to worry about much more when it comes to SEO and earning online income. If it's an authority site that I'm taking seriously, I'd make sure the guideline is applied.

    H1 tag is very important for the website... you should use h1 tag single time in a page.

    We have found that using a 2 or 3 h1 tags in a page is not really a problem at all. I think the problem lies with using say 8 or more and making them sentences rather than short headings and stuffing them with keywords. If the heading appears naturally on a pages content and the headings are separated with a paragraph in each case this seems OK.

    I think more than 1 H1 tag can go good with SEO as long as
    you don't over-stuff keywords.

    See there should be a structure in your blog post and it must go like this one heading under H1 and several heading under H1>H2 and more heading under H1>H2>H3 and so on.So for clear structure maintain your H1 tag count to 1 only.
