Why does google favor this site, but not that one?

I have xx amount of sites, and it is just complete hit and miss if
google will favor a site. If google favors one of my sites, then indexing
will skyrocket somewhat quickly while sites that are not favored
tend not to move, or even loose indexing....

Site1- within just 5 days went from 2500 indexing too 10k, then too 19k.
(made 5 sales 1 day after buying site)

Site2- 500 indexing- after 4 weeks little to no change....
    (has made zero)

    Both sites are niche.
    Do not carry same products.
    Both have 20k+ products
    Sites Prof made, etc...
Both sites are 1+ yr of age

I have sites similar to site1
I have sites similar to site2

Is there anything I can do in order to turn site2 type
sites into site1 type sites as I am just at a loss
on why google will favor some sites, and pretty
much just piss on other sites....

One of the possible causes can be the site's domain name. I recall having 3 job search sites a few years back. I started them all around the same time and one of them just took off. Looking back now, I think it was because that domain name emphasized the content of the site better than the other two did. All three of them were kind of identical in nature, so I can only assume that it had something to do with the name.

Sorry but domain name has nothing to do with google SEO anymore. Google has said that since Panda update (late 2012) EMD doesn't get any advantage over another. Google algorithm is very complex and it's hard to determine what's wrong. It could be backlinks or it may be that other of the products that you are offering has more competition than other.

Also, did you buy unused domain names? Make sure that there are not any bad stuff in the history.

That can hardly be the case, as this would mean that brandable domain names are completely useless in terms of SEO.
As the OP suggested, there were sales 1 day after he "bought the site" so it does sound like he is buying previously used
domain names. If this is the case then it does sound like some of the sites had valuable link juice and site is just squeezing
old benefits. With the same logic, the backlinks on the Site 2 type might easily work the other way around and provide no
    value or even risk penalizing.

few of my sites are brand new, so some do have age, none of them that I know of have any
good amount of backlinks. As stated in the first post, site1 is still pulling sales here and there...
while site2 and other similar sites are still dead to the world. I have setup a blog on site 2 and
will start adding unique content, so it may take a while to see if google falls for the bait....

everyone keeps saying content is king, use unique content, bla, bla...but as long as I have
been using unique content on other sites, I just have not seen any evidence of that, maybe i need more backlinks,
but how do you get backlinks when google tells you everything you are doing to get backlinks is a google crime...

Well, why don't you share the site link so we can also have a look on what you're talking about ! As far as i know Google algorithm is much more complex they keep on penalising themselves if they were wrong at some place. There might be some different ..... well can't tell you unless i visit that site. If possible do share the site link.
