Does Google penalize or de-index pages within a site without doing so to the entire site? I have a feeling someone is going to bark down my throat for asking this question but it doesnt seem to be a popular question. Thanks in advance.
and as far as i know, they banned all your sites in same hosting. i wonder how they know. but in some of my friends cases, all of their sites were banned in same time.
Nah, it can be both or either, if you've got a dmca complaint for example they remove one page,if you have suspicious (non related) links on posts they may just remove offending page/s. It's not always entire sites. It's to broad to answer. But, it can be both.
you can have a partial action. I had a partial action on my blog - there were a couple of posts from MBG, but the main site was fine. I removed the links and Google removed the manual action a few days later.
It strikes me as odd that Google would penalise the whole site for one error, and i'm inclined to believe that it will be just that page that gets hammered.
Exactly, it all depends on what the penalization is for, hence why I said the topic is too broad above.
Google WILL penalize internal pages both via algorithm and penalty if they see over-optimization or paid link campaigns.
Yeah he knows that - I believe... but he wants to know if it's the entire site or just internal pages.
yes, sometime the google penalize only some pages (which have spammy links etc) instead of penalizing whole site
No I believe who site got penalises rather than single page! Because what penalise is the domain and if a domain penalises your page is also going to get penalise.
That's why I said the question is too vague... for instance some penalizations may delete a page from G's index or some penalizations may wipe the entire site. Some may be a penalty that only kicks you into the deep (search result) pages & not delete your site completely. There's so many answers.
