I've never gotten the chance to put up a site and now I must turn to a nice member of this place for assistance. I've been grabbing a few script here and there. Funny I just look at something someone is trying to sell and go to the host copyright and find out it's a free script. lol. Best price ever for me. anyway....... I'm extremely new to this so it's just way too much for my to take in. I've been trying to get a stie installed but I just can't figure it out. Wha???? Change it to what, and where do I know how to change it,etc. Then I look at the "over 100's files and become stressed and overwelmed. I'm hoping one of you could give me a MSN tutorial and install this with me. I've been hanging around and there's just no where to learn for someone as fresh as me. (be a good guy and contact me now) Of course, this isn't the best time becuase it's 5:00am where I'm at and I should be going to sleep in 30 minutes tops, but there's always tomorrow, right?
Ask your host how to connect to your database. They will send you a username, password and url for the database server. Add these to your config.php file. Ask your host to install the sql.sql file or do it via phpmyadmin (install phpmyadmin if its not there already).
I was trying to install this on some free host to see if I could do it, but it's like I have to make my own database settings on this particular free host (110mb). The plan was to just try it, and when I know what I'm doing hit up on a paid host. There's another thing. The sql.sql file thing was one of the many files which is just a .txt file. That thing is important? (lol, wow, I don't feel smart)
If the free host don't offer any support then you would be better off going to a paid host who pre installs phpmyadmin for you.
I mean that if you are installing it on free host just to *test* it then why dont you install xampp on your pc it comes with phpmyadmin mysql etc and pretty easy to manage then i am sure you will be able to install your script on your pc... Saad
The test isn't for if the script is good or not. It's the problem with not knowing how to put something online. This site I do have, I was going to use, it's just I don't know what I'm doing. Will that program help me to learn more about what to change with the sql, database, where to put files when putting them up to host, etc?
Yes, you should install it on your pc and try to install some scripts and you will learn how to use scripts....Also dont forget to use hosting comes with cPanel then you can manage everything from it... Saad
Alright, I'll try that for a little while then if I still am overwelmed, I'll pull out my paypal and have to break down and pay someone around here.
It looks like you want to upload and use a script based site. NOTE, not many free hosts support scripts. I will try to answer the questiosn you asked. 1. Most scripts use a database. The first thing you have to do is create the DB, create a user and assign a password to that user. Then you grant that user access to the the database. All of this is done in the control panel that comes with your hosting. Then and only then do you open the config.php file, also commonly know by several other names and insert the values for DB name, username and password. On a few hosts you also have to change "localhost" to something else. 2. Some scripts use an install file and some require you to import the data structure using phpadmin. That data is stored in a file.sql format. It is nothing but a text withe the sql extension instead of .txt. 3. For those scripts that have an install tables this is where you go to do that. 4. How could you need to update what you have not installed? Don't worry about this one yet. Be glad to try and answer any specific questions you have.
Ok, Let's do this from the beginning. I'm using a domain from domainsite. These hoster dudes gave me 2 nameservers So I went into domainsite, into the controls for the domain I wanted to use the "added those two". There was already 4 there. Do I have to do anything else, or should that be right for the host when it resolves?
You need to have the nameservers your host gave you to be in the 1st two positions for your site to be visible. Otherwise the other nameservers will draw a parking page. I think? Col
Think huh... Man, that's no good because it takes like 48 hours to resorve this and if it's wrong, I'll have to do it again.
It's not wrong. The nameservers your host gave you are the ones you only require for your web site to be visible on the net. Just get rid of the other 4. There is no need for the other nameservers. I guarantee your web site will be visible if you only have the two namservers from your host. I have done this like a zillion times. Ahem, any other members can jump in and confirm this for this Noob pls? Col
Yeah, I have already spoken with this member on the msn; C-SEO is right, only ever two nameservers are ueed for actual resolution anyway, anything after ns2 or dns2 will only be used in a catastrophe and so adding them to the services on your domain registrar wont do any good at all.
Krakjoe here is a good guy. Helped me out a lot. No confirmation needed. You type confident enough for me. (yet again thanks, and like always, I'll be back for assistance eventually again)
