He hadn't posted it on this thread, so it was obviously useful.

You should not be talking about something that you know nothing about. Parrots re ruining forums. The information is NOT helpful and not useful and is wrong. The search engines DO NOT see the DP signatures as spam.

Word of the day: Ultracrepidarian (n):”Somebody who gives opinions on subjects they know nothing about.”

Yes, but what you are contributing is wrong and misleading. The search engines DO NOT see signature at DP as spam.

Well then forgive me, and move on with your life. It's just a forum post.

No its not. Its you parroting bullshit to misled people; if you are going to make claims that are false, you need to be called on them and held accountable for the BS. What motivates you to make stuff up?

Nothing "motivates" me. What motivates you to be rude on an online forum.

If it's clear that you have control over a link, the search engines are not too impressed.

So ask yourself: who has control over forum signature links? You do, of course. So for that reason alone, the sig link is not going to help much, if at all. Will it hurt? No one on this forum knows for sure, but lots of opinions are floated by many. Personally, I removed my Digital Point signature links quite a while ago. (1) They are not in my website's niche, and (2) I had so many of them (because of my post count on DP over many years) that they contributed to my having an unnatural link profile.

Exactly (about self-built links), although now on DP only signature links of Premium Members are visible. DP now actually provides an good way for gaining traffic through a signature link (unless you are a Premium Member) if it is relevant to the audience; search engines can't see it, therefore no risk of it being seen as a link scheme, only members can (and hopefully click through). But for forums and links in general, Jim's advice regarding links you have control over (i.e. ones you built yourself) is sensible to follow.

Just because a link is self serving doesn't in and of itself make it spam. It's the intent that matters the most.

Before posting your statement be sure to defend it with your knowledge and experience and not to rely on other source that you don't even understand just to say something in the thread.

In forum posting its an environment of learning people from the starters and an sharing place for the experienced members.

Yes, Forum posting with signature always works, although this is the only best thing that has left in the hand of the SEO's. If you're regular with the forums then I must say you will be able to drive some of the quality traffic. :D

    Hi,
I agree but Google consider only your posting in forums not links as primary... so its natural.

Yes it is still working well enough to spread your wings, does not boost like it was the case earlier but yes it still works. Now a days Forums discouraging signatures, link juice inside signatures or sometime it allows but with no-follow. But with signature you can still spread business name and it will help in SEO. After all SEO is a process where small elements like this have important share initially.
