I used to have my website put products on sale certain days of the week, but am considering changing it so that it offers the discount for a certain amount of time after the visitor first goes to my website, is that a good idea? I was thinking of making it offer a discount that expires either at midnight of the first day they visit or a fixed amount of time after their first visit such as 2 hours and display a live countdown showing when the discount will expire. I could have the discount come into effect again a week or so after it expires to give buyers another chance. Does this sound like an effective marketing idea or should I go back to having the discounted prices on certain days of the week? Thank you
I like your new approach because it will help in a number of instances: 1. Give everyone a chance to take advantage of the discount. Somone who needs to buy your product on a day that is not discounted will be unhappy. 2. You will lose fewer customers who come to the site and then decide to wait for the day of the discount to buy. Many of those folks will not remember to come back, find the product somewhere else in the meantime, etc. 3. People respond to the clock ticking away. It is one of hte best ways to spur buying action that I have seen. Good luck and let us know how it goes if you do implement this new pricing scheme.
I think you have to do your research on your target audience to find out what's the optimal time period to capture them. Unless you are able to tweak the time according to time zones. If you can get it to work, it is a very fresh idea!
I got the first version working, I've made it so you get 20% off for the first 6 hours after your first visit and the sale will reset once a week, and I give bigger discounts with the orders for repeat business. One thing I want to change is instead of make the timer exactly 6 hours from your first visit which makes it obvious it started when you visited the page, I'd like to round it so it ends at the exact hour, for example someone that goes to the site at 1:17 PM, instead of the sale ending in 6 hours at 7:17 PM, I'd make it end either at 7 PM or 8 PM, to make it look as though it's a sale that's the same for everyone. On the legal side, are there any laws that prevent me from giving coupons that are specific to each visitor? The website is www.ccrrefills.com if you want to see the timer. Thanks
As long as your promotional policy is not discriminatory (based on race, gender, etc.) you are free to sell your products to whom you would like at what price(s) you would like in the US, anyway.
I made it so the timer will always end at a exact hour and choose a delay of 5 to 6 hours, for example, if you go to the website at 5:21 PM, it will say the sale ends in 5 hours 39 minutes which will be exactly 11:00 PM, giving the impression the countdown had already started before you got to the website. Do you think 5 to 6 hours is a good delay to give them or should I make it shorter or longer? Also, how many days after the sale ends should I make it occur again? I have it set to 5 days now. Thanks
Free shipping is always a nice discount which works in ecommerce. Or you can give discounts for buying more than one product.
Yes, I think that timely discount helps drive sales and boost up revenue and this profit can be invested in offering new products to the customers.
