You can use your ads at the top of your page after the header (like a banner or affiliate related products like google's affiliate program or any other by your choice). You can use another ad on the right side as a column. Then the 3rd one you can add it as a paragraph breaker in long text or at the end if the text is not more than 1 page. If it's more than a page, then you can insert 2 ads. 1 in the middle the second at the end. Depending on the length of your text the number of ads that you can use can increase. This way you will get the most value in my opinion. Most do this way. Check also some professional big sites how they place their ads and you can get a better idea.

Maybe the visitors to your website are not interested in ads(maybe the ads are not targeted). Try different ad placements and ad sizes. Keep testing.

What kind are your ads? Are they Geo targeted? Are they banners or text? And have you checked if the ads that are being displayed related to your niche? Have you also checked your bounce rate at google analytics and Alexa? If your bounce rate is too high then this can affect you to get low clicks to your ads. The higher the faster the faster the visitors quit your site. Or another fact is maybe that the ads are not so attractive to the visitors you get to your website. If you want, add a banner for an an affiliate product related to your niche. And see the difference, do you get more clicks and do you make sales.

I've checked your website. At Alexa your bounce rate seems to be a little high. It's over the average 50%. Your bounce rate is 63.80%. I would suggest you to change the banner on the right side. Make it a square one and place it on the top. The next is that you can change the position of the banner on your home page. You can move it above or below your navigation link. If you can, place it exactly after the "Headlines" where it shows your latest headlines (Probably it's your rss). You can also place another banner at the end of your page. These banner types should be small in width and with a longer length.

The other thing you can do is to modify your ads on the pages when we read the news. It seems you've 3 banners at a short text which are too annoying and mess up our minds. I would suggest you not to place these type of banners (square ones) especially at the very beginning of the text. Change them to a smaller one with the width (90 is ideal). The ones that you've used seems to be breaking the texts. And also know when to place the banner exactly. You have placed too many banners in small texts. It affects the reader not read all the story.

Have a look at abcnews, fox news, cnet news and others how they have placed their ads.

I hope this strategy to increase your earnings.
