That is true ian batten, but if you talk to them they may allow it, i had a talk to my host and they said its ok, they usally dont want people having them as it creates more crime, people stealing etc. But just trying to get to a site from school or work is not a big deal.
The only problem with proxies on shared is they use way too much of the CPU if they get a decent amount of traffic
Oh really? That is interesting. Did you have a good relationship with your host before, or was the agreement just made out of the blue?
Try and find a good, but noobish host, without any ToS! Ill check my friends host, see if its against their ToS www . primalhosting.co.uk/tos-shared.php - Im not aloud to post links yet ''/ Have a read thorugh! Buy hosting
Yes, but the company would still just throw you off if you used a rediculous server usage. Godaddy state nowhere you cannot setup a proxy, but people do.
I actually have two sites running PHProxy on Godaddys Deluxe shared hosting plan. The sites are www.proxyoutlaw.com and www.veggieproxy.com. I was working on a CGIproxy template, and trying to get the cgi script to work, and I couldn't get it to work on Godaddys server. I called their support and they said they don't support Non parsed headers, which CGIproxy uses. There is a way to run the script without using non parsed headers, but it didnt work for me. While I was on the phone with godaddy, they mentioned that their TOS did not allow proxy websites. However, before I signed up for their hosting, I talked to a sales lady on the phone and she said that as long as the content isn't illegal in the United States (i.e. child pornography, etc) that they would allow it. I asked to see their terms of service and she said she didnt know where it is..and I couldn't find it. I don't want to hijack your thread, just thought I would let you know. PHProxy does run fine though, but I have bought a dedicated server to run my proxy sites on, and will be cancelling my godaddy shared hosting account.
