No, if it happens it may be discrimination. Loading time of the site may be slow but .... website hosting might be a different thing !! or .... :(:(:(

    Hi Sudhir,
I agree with John here. It should NOT be based on your website hosting.
However, you can have a localized SEO strategy, focused on certain locations/language to reach your target audience (for example, you would not promote an European job site to an Asian market unless it's a specific requirement, but rather focus on promoting it towards European users).

Loading speed is one of the many factors thats used to calculate your SERP.
but if you mean location of your server, then no.

and for the same niche sites on the same IP, i wouldnt do it. google might see them is a linking structure and penalize for that

The kind of IP (sharing or dedicated) and the loading spped may have some effect on SERPs but the location of servers should not be. A sharing IP may adversely affect the rankings if there are some bad neighborhood (like other penelized sites on same IP).

Only Loading Time and spammed shared ip can cause ranking issue. It's better to buy dedicated IP's.

The two factors with hosting is: speed and looking organic.

If your hosting is really slow and causes slow load times on your website, then yes it will hurt your SEO somewhat.

The other thing is many SEOs they will buy high PR websites to build their relevant links to their websites. In this case, it is much better to have multiple hosting accounts for your PR websites that are pointing back to your money site. If they were all on the same hosting, Google will frown on it because they will be able to see it is coming from the same server.

SEO Hosting gets around this, but a test a couple friends of mine did showed it is actually more effective to setup the sites on multiple different hostings.

Search engines can look at your IP address only if they have problems with determining what the language of your website is. The problem with using the same IP address by lots of websites is if they are spammy and Google decides to ban all of them. It sometimes happens with free hostings and I remember such a situation that happened a year ago.

Are you sure? I thought it's not so important when talking about your SERP... Otherwise big blogs and websites would have NO ranking at all... ;)

It is a factor, but just a small one, plus server location does affect loading time anyway

I am not too sure, but when you think about it. It would make some sense to have websites located on american servers to rank higher on google.com

I have a UK site hosted in Denmark on a shared host. There are no problems with SEO or local listings. Search engines will all be aware of shared hosting and are not going to blacklist a load of good sites because of one bad apple. I would usually avoid free hosts just because they are so slow and often have high downtime.

Server location and speed are powerful factors. Server location affects site speed. But probably more importantly it also points out a location. Server location is even more powerful than geo-domain extensions. However if your content is about global/universal things (ie, science, tech, etc.) , then server location is not a factor. But if you have a local business (ie, car dealer, real estate agent, doctor, etc.) always try to rent the nearest server to your business.

IP is also a factor but only for spam. If you don't spam don't worry about IP.

    How do we know?
Perhaps google might flag certain servers IP's as "spammy" and you will find yourself getting penalized easily without doing anything wrong.

Google is the top search engine because it allows people to find the best sites. If your site is good quality then by penalising it Google would be harming themselves.

Yes. It should. Especially if you are targeting a local audience (Not the global).
Having web hosting server in the same geographical location where visitors resides, will make the quicker page loading. Because the greater distance between the web servers and the site visitors often results in more nodes for data to pass through and eventually more time.
    e.g.
If you are having website for local audience like,
www[.]mylocalshop.fr it is advisable to have web hosting server within France.

It will help search engines to make sure that your audience is targeted to France so will give higher ranking in search results for given keyword.

The same thing is confirmed by Matt Cutts himself. Check below video

They don't flag servers. They flag "patterns" of spams. It's like your fingerprints. If you spam, you bring your own signs and they follow those signs. Because you can't know and apply all the spam methods. You can use a few same spam methods that will be different from the other spammers on the same server.
If you spam on the same server, they will easily catch you. If you do it on different servers, it will a bit hard for them to catch you. That's the difference. But eventually they will recognize your spam methods depending on your spam volume.

I'd honestly recommend a cheap VPS from digitalocean.com

It is only 5$ a month, and a lot better than shared hosting especially when put through cloudflare.
