I am actually having the same problem with my website and have been looking into a possible solution. My website suddenly took a drop at 50% on the 31st of December and since then it has gradually been trickling down to less than 100 a day. In December I was getting over 250 a day and yesterday it said I only had 78 visits which I don't believe! My website is small fair enough but its completely natural.

First of all check your rankings and to see if any pages have been de indexed. I have checked all of mine and all of my pages are still where they where on the first page of Google this means no penalty has been incurred.

Check your google webmasters tools I only verified mine today but you may have an email with warnings etc about unnatural links. Mini is empty however on the 31st of December there was an update which I think may have spewed data.

Finally double check your analytics code is ok/up to date I still have to do this. Cross check with something else. I am an affiliate and I have checked my reports there and they are saying that I have been getting just as many clicks and sales as other months so this leads me to believe this wouldn't be the case if my traffic really is as low as analytics are saying.

If everything checks out then I think we are just going to have to assume that people just aren't typing in our search terms as much anymore.

Check your Google Webmaster and see if there are any news.

It's not uncommon for websites to fluctuate in traffic. You just have to keep coming up with creative ways to keep people engaged. It's not easy, but you just have to stick with your plan. Trust has a lot to do with it. People need to know they can trust you.

There was an algorithm update early this month (I don't remember the day), so the rank dropping could have been associated with that.
