SEO on subdomain

    Looking fora little advice.
I currently have my photography site setup using zenfolio.com. With that, www. danfrei.com and danfrei.com both point to my zenfolio store. I am also using wordpress as my blogging software. I did this because of the SEO Wordpress can do as well as the greater flexibility with using Wordpress over the Zenfolio blog software. The issue is I have my blog pointing to blog.danfrei.com. Is this hurting my SEO by trying to market and optimize two different (sub)domains/websites? Should I kill the wordpress blog and move everything to the WWW domain to keep it all in one spot or is it an advantage to have two domains interlinked like this?

    Any advice is appreciated.

There is no need of killing the blog because it's actually not hurting you, what I can suggest you is instead of running your blog on the other sub domain try to take it to your main domain i.e. Zenfolio.com it would not be that tough if its already on the Wordpress but again if you're using some other CMS than i think you should run your blog in the danfrei.com as what it is doing is redirecting, so better to run your blog on that one.

Zenfolio doesn't allow me to run external/3rd party code, only what they provide. So I would have to use their own proprietary blog management system. That was why I went with a subdomain and hosted my blog elsewhere so i could run Wordpress. Now I'm just wondering if that was a good idea or not. I'm getting links/backlinks to the sub domain, effectively giving less links to the main domain. Just wondering if that is hurting my SEO by not having ALL my links going to just the main domain.

It will be a better idea if you can move you blog to a subdomain of your main domain(e.g. blog . zenfolio . com etc.). This will also give you more flexibility in controlling the contents due to having everything on one server.

So Webdev007, since that is currently how I have my setup (blog.danfrei.com has the blog and www. danfrei.com has EVERYTHING ELSE). You are saying that I am not hurting my search engine ranking for www. danfrei.com by having additional content on a subdomain. And that I won't help search engine ranking for www. danfrei.com by adding a blog to that domain(ie. www. danfrei.com/blog )?

basically blog. danfrei.com is better than www. danfrei.com/blog with regards to SEO?

It's a good idea to use a blog... That way you would be able to post QUALITY and UNIQUE content often... Just be sure to point from the blog to your main page! Pointing from the main page to the blog could also be done, but I would stay with the 1st one only if you don't want to disturb your visitors from buying from your store! ;)
