Fixing Broken Links: What do you Replace Dead Links with?

I am about to start searching my blogs for broken links to fix.

My question is: what do you guys replace dead links with?

Say you find links to sites that no longer exist, do you try and find a similar active site? Do you just delete the link altogether, even if it means rewriting the post? Or do you just put "link removed"?

Just move on and make new links. Links are going to be get broken all the time for various natural reasons. One that comes to mind is your link from a blog's homepage getting scrolled off the page.

No need to worry about replacing the links. Just keep creating more from new sources.

I think you might have misunderstood what I was asking.

I'm talking about links I have placed into posts on my blogs to other sites. :)

    Ahhhhh! Hahaha.

I guess it matter what you're linking out to them for. On my money sites, I only have links for affiliates or a few authority sites(to establish Google credibility). I'd rather keep the link juice flowing through the pages on my site. Plus, its just another exit off my page.

If your blog post is offering resources such as suggestions of dog training schools, then rather than re-writing the post, I would find some different sites to link to. Or perhaps you might consider removing the post altogether if there are too many broken links.

Depends on the link URL.. (1) Let say link goes to "MakeAMillionBucks(dot) whatever.. Write your own little summary and redirect broken link to that posting (2) Another that I do is put "similar site to "broken Link" in google and use that url example https://www.google.ca/#newwindow=1&q=similar site to digitalpoint especially if it is a useful site to the posting

I look at the context of the link in the post, if I can delete the link without extensive editing in order to maintain readability of the post, I'll simply delete the link and make a minor edit. If that's not the case depending on the age and value of the post, I'll delete it or do a complete rewrite.

I have a suggestion... you can redirect your dead links to an Opt-In Form... and tell your readers that the site is no longer around and they can get updates.
