Dev site duplicate content?

Hi everyone. This is my first post on here. We use a sub-domain of our site to do testing and new developments before they go up on our live site. What I would like to know is should we be using a robot.txt to stop google from indexing the dev site? Because I am afraid google might index the site and see it as duplicate content.

Yes. This is a good way to avoid any dupe issues.

You could use a .htaccess to restrict the dev site by user/pass also - I do this to stop anyone stumbling across the dev site
