Read interesting article today about google takes less and less back-linking into account and more of other factors like social traffic, bounce rate, click through, quality of content and so on. It could be just what google tries to make you believe because its whole ranking algorithm is / was based on links. At the same time no arguing that above mentioned factors plays major role nowadays.
that's interesting. It would make sense, but then to reach this stage you need traffic which comes from backlinks.
We are still a far ways out from this type of Google utopia. Keep in mind that anyway the algorithm shifts, abuse and "seo" will shift as well. It's very easy to manipulate all of those factors you just mentioned.
In my opinion, including the manufacture of backlinks play an important role, because it can optimize the site.
You cannot stop building backlinks. You will have to post your website to drive traffic to your website. How can Google stop you from marketing your website through other mediums, as if Google wants your website to get traffic only through its search engine and no other source.
Thats what G is trying to do!! How can they profit on you if they dont tell you you can only advertise with them and you "must remove all links to your site"....
Google is moving to a pay for listing future. Google wants you to rip down all your backlinks for THEM, then you will rank no where else and you can buy Adsense every time you want traffic. If you want to invest all your eggs into google search you will just destroy all of your seo for other search engines and be paying for google listings in the future.
This is exactly what G is trying to do is get everyone to forget there are other search engines and focus on them. And i for one dont build a site for google rankings only as i realize there are others that will bring traffic as well.
I agree, I think it is crazy to invest all of your SEO into one search engine. Most of my sites are getting almost 20% traffic from other search engines and it has been creeping up over the last little while a year or 2 ago it was more like 13%-15%. Google is making a lot of changes and they have a lot of changes down the pipeline, users do not like changes.. especially changes devoted to sucking more money and personal information from them. I would not be surprised at all to start see people migrating to other search engines.
Yes but google said that see future (for 10-15 years) without baclinks as something important for seo
The links can be less "clean" allowing shortcodes, redirects from advertising systems, links from apps and other software. It is appropriate that they use the other means of tracking, and have achieved where Alexa failed - purely because Google dominate traffic analysis, browser user, phone/tablet software (android) as well as the search engine.
without keyword backlinks, then your serps will never go up....if google goes link-less, then what is the poing of being online, other then to advertise with google to get your site out there....? Do not build your site solely based on google's needs or wants, unless you want reply on google for the rest of your life, and your life is in their hands, and when google says poof, then you are done. I would rather not rely on the aide of google, but if they give you a bone, then consider it a bonus. Just dont get married to google.... Before you know it, google will file for devoice, and bitch slap you into next sunday, sometime next year....
I doubt links are going away any time soon - maybe if Google's servers finally gain consciousness (and decide to be friendly ). Otherwise, links are the only surefire way to know whether people like other sites or not - if they link, they at least find it interesting. Social traffic is basically still links, by the way. And of course, you need great content that actual people find useful - that's been the case since like, always. With good content, you can end up not needing Google or Bing at all!
I wouldn't be surprised if Google is collecting MASSIVE amounts of data from Chrome users. Things like browsing behaviors, bounce rates, etc. could all be sent to Google, who can use that information to improve their search algorithm. Since probably 60+% of web users use either Chrome or have a Google Toolbar installed, Google doesn't have a need to rely so much on backlinks any longer when they can get their information directly from the users.
Backlinks help with more than just SEO, so I would believe that they will still remain in the picture. Also the increasing on social would be very helpful.
It is possible... Link less means less importance of SEO. Google may do it for to grow PPC customers.
