I am thinking of purchasing photoshop , its quite pricey. Give me your thoughts, is it worth it? Or should i just stick to gimp?

It all depends on what you plan to do with it and the level of proficiency. I expect that for advanced users there are probably things photoshop does, or does more easily, that make it worth the price.

If, however, all you do is resize photos, make them web ready and maybe add a bit of text then you might as well stick with gimp.

You need to tell us a bit more about why you think gimp is falling short - what you are trying to do that you can't with gimp. It might just be a training issue? or it might be a valid reason to make the switch.

Take the time to fully understand what you need from your photo editing software. Perhaps gimp would be enough. Perhaps LightRoom would be more useful to you than Photoshop. Describe in more detail what you're looking for from the software, and I'm sure we'll be able to help you answer your question.

Also, just get a trial and see if it does everything you need + if you need everything it does.

It really depends on whether you're a hobby user or a business user. If you're making money from creating your graphics, then yes, Photoshop would more than likely be worth the outlay for you. It takes some getting used to, but honestly, it's the best graphics development program out there. On the other hand, if you make graphics as a hobby and aren't gaining financially from it, then Photoshop probably isn't for you, it's quite pricey after all.

I have Photoshop CS6 and I like Powerpoint 2010 better. You can manipulate the program and layer easier than you can in Photoshop. It all depends on the picture you are trying to create. There are advantages and disadvantages to both.

I would say that I prefer GIMP anytime, maybe because my work does not need to edit images often.

    Hi

As a designer I use Photoshop everyday of my life. At least every other year I upgrade to the latest version. I am using Photoshop CC right now and there are definitely advantages and disadvantages. To sum it all up bottom line is, I don't regret subscribing to Adobe cc. Here is a link to my blog article about what's good and what's bad in CC www[.]lanotdesign[.]com/blog-post/features-i-like-and-dislike-in-adobe-cc/

They offer a monthly plan. I'd say do that until you're making enough off of it to justify the price tag.

I would recommend you check out the open source alternatives. Gimp and Paint.NET are both excellent programs. Very easy to use, with great support from the communities and with the scripts and plugins can probably do more than Photoshop

It's definitely worth the price at least for me. I use photoshop almost every day and couldn't do my work without it. I can't say if you need it enough to buy the software but trust me, it's the best in the business. If you find the price too high you can always use GIMP as said earlier. It's a decent software that is a good alternative for photoshop.

It`s worth the money only if you earn your keep with it. And if your nature of work requires PS instead of GIMP. Otherwise, buying it just for the sake of having it... doesn`t worth it

If you think of Photoshop as your tool to get money and think about it on a larger scale , let's say in months - definitely worth it's price.
