Its difficult to stop people from using Dirty Tactics... The solution is to completely be on check...
I think the real problem is because of the dishonest attitude of webmasters other wise there would be no problem around
I routinely check the links in my "more resources" page to spot check my partners - rarely ever have to remove one as I make sure they are quality sites prior to linking with them <--- good idea
Thats not a new, yep it is dirty... but i think everytime google records all thing what sites are trying to cheat them... well if they remove incendetly then they sould be prepare to go for Sandboxed anyway www.link-assistant.com is working good for me...
Probably the most ridiculous thing I have heard all week. Link exchanges are done all of the time and can be extremely beneficial to both parties. Take a look at some of the biggest sites on the web....notice how they have that little section on the bottom that says "Partner Sites"? Sites like Match, Ticketmaster, Expedia, and Citysearch all exchange links with one another...and they're doing just fine.
Link exchanges for the purpose of SEO that don't help the end user are not favoured by Google's guidelines. I was joking anyway.
i m using extremetracking. i dont even care if they have a link on their site. I care how many how many unique hits they can send to me.
You are correct and im happy i have the software now from "mystic media" or chris.... as all i do is press a button and it does a check on all 6 sites and all links associated with those sites. Makes it simplier to track the Dirtballs that cant keep their word thx malcolm
This is exactly why if I sell any link space on my sites I encourage doing the subscription thing. There is always the option of canceling prior to next payment.
Before slagging someone off in public, let's think about this. Wasn't the initial Google algorhythm based on the concept of webmasters linking to a website to hightlight that the content is useful and informational to your visitors. Link exchanges have developed over time, and are something that SEO's and webmasters have worked on for years to help "cheat" the algorhythm - and it's why I am sure Google especially, are valuing the weight of 1-1 links less than 1 way. So those comments weren't ridiculous, and I've read alot worse today on this thread.
See this is where you are making a huge assumption. If in fact all websites that exchanged links did so for SEO and “cheating†purposes, then yes, you would be absolutely correct. The truth is, although tons of webmasters only exchange links for SEO purposes, there are quality websites out there exchanging links for other reasons. If both links are relevant and/or complimentary, there is no way for Google to assume that you are trying to “cheat†them, and thus they can not justify penalizing you for it. You are also right in saying that Google does not value reciprocal links as much as it does 1 way links…but I never said that it wasn’t so. In my post I specifically said that link exchanges can be mutually beneficial to both parties…and nothing more. So the question remains…should reciprocal link exchanges be considered a “dirty tacticâ€? Well that depends on the webmaster. If you are linking to unrelated sites, then yes it is and it will be obvious. The statement made was in fact ridiculous because it assumes, just as you did, that all link exchanges are done to cheat the system. Although it may be hard for you to believe, there are still webmasters out there that want to develop quality relationships with other websites. BTW…here is a little tidbit from Wikipedia: “Link Exchange between websites in the same industry can help them and if the website owner does not want to link to direct competitors it is adviseable to exchange links with sites that complement the content of their website.â€
Good points but let's be realistic. 90% of webmasters link exchange for SEO not because they like some content. The ONLY time I see link exchange because of content is blogs. I have tons of people linking to me because of my travel content, BUT this is really the minority. I still feel your comments were harsh, and were uncalled for.
Link exchange really is time-intensive, especially when you consider that a high % of webmasters will try to stiff you in so many creative ways. And those that don't will often move domain or close their website anyway, without bothering to inform you.
So you better check your reciprocal links. You can use this tool http://www.download.com/QuidProQuo-Reciprocal-Links-Checker/3000-2181_4-10434075.html
Thanks Corazon!! i'll check that out...might as well be sure that all my links are present on my partners site...
