On Dec 6th 2006, 3:33 am smindsrt sent me a pm I didn't understand what he meant .. {yes check time of pm } but next day i pm him back and offer him my avatar for free (because of bringing *new* idea) for 7 days because i knew otherwise it would create lot of same avatar on board and it would become irritating but 7 days will give him what he actually wants. He come up with truely new idea. I don't know how long it will work on DP but its wonderful marketing trick. Its not a direct link but it will bring more value than a live link. This idea has worked. Check this. So guys you can market things way good if you just tweak a routine work. Like in this case .. Routine is - Signature Rent
The idea has surely clicked - half the users in DP using the avatar have made many visit the site out of curiosity nice viral marketing
No it hasn't at all CLICKED, he got the whole thing done for a wrong site People will got a directory and can do only one thing that is to submit their sites to it He should have done it for a better site which would get people addicted to it, also he must have put the site URL in the avatar IT
Mong is not the owner of site sift,so how can get that kind of things? Hey Stuart, where are you?? Tell us how much traffic you get from this kind of advertisement.
It's a really good branding exercise imho. If I were going to submit a new site to some directories.. guess what the first two I'd think of would be? Pete
I would think he know waht he is doing. He has spent a lot of money renting avatars and he wouldn't do it unless there substantial benefits.
That's what makes it so interesting. There's no link coming from an avatar, but they do get a heck of a lot of exposure. A lot of us are very focused on getting links and making sure they are SEO-friendly, and we tend to forget that there are other ways of marketing a website.
I think it's a great idea. The only problem is that there's no click through.. so I would have to go and search for "site sift" in the hope of finding it.
Its a start , plus people just type sitesift.com and they go to his site. Not to mention a lot of ppl blogged about it giving him backlinks.
Argh.. I'll say one thing - it makes threads like these look like it's one person talking to themselves!
".... it makes threads like these look like it's one person talking to themselves!" Muhahaha, I was thinking about the "negative branding effect" mostly for the ones that sells their space, as I cannot see their names anymore in an attempt to not look at the same colors yet one more time, and also... it's one thing when one guy in your street thinks it's cool to sell his house front to Coca Cola...but when everyone in the street does it...yeah..try to find a new one next time in the store when your hand is trying to grap a soda, I'll try my very best to avoid seeing that logo again... Good for traffic for the site for sure, at least there is one benefit, no there is a second: So much easier now to get attention with anything else but...
