I guess anyone who has gotten into ecommerce has looked at shopping cart software or has used some of some type. I use oscommerce but I think it lacks in capability for SEO. I have added some contributions to my site and it looks ok but it takes a long time to go from a new installation to the final useable product. I want some opinions from people who use other types of carts. What do you think is the best for SEO mainly and why? Thanks in advance.
Most carts are pretty bad out of the box, but nearly all have SEO plugins. Did you try an SEO plugin / mod?
My client is also concerned about SEO, we have pretty good carts set up. SunShop and CKGold. An example of these are, http://www.herbalcantera.net/ (CKGold) and http://www.turkishmeerschaum.com/ (SunShop). If you'd like to know anything regarding these two carts, feel free to ask me.
On sites that we build using OSC we normally offer the client a search engine optimised home page on the top level. This allows us to do what we like there without the restrictions of OSC. I don't think this affects business. Prominent buttons are placed on this home page that direct visitors into the store.
<OSC is not even professional> OSC is far more professional than many of the cr@ppy commercial offerings. Anyone who says that it is not professional does not know what can be done with it.
