How do I take a screenshot of a video while it's playing?

Everytime I try to printscreen while a video is playing and bring it over to paint it shows up as a black box, how can I fix this?

 

Its different for the media formats and players, so google will be your best bet. Here is one I found for .avi playing in WMP.
