Hi guys, Newbie here. I'm using Twitter to get my music heard. It's classical. So I searched for classical music and tweeted to users using @user. I never sent more than 100 per day and never followed more than 100 per day. My account was suspended for unsolicited behavior. I understand the need to stop spammers, but how am I going to reach 1,000,000 people with my music - 10 per day, 20 per day...??? Lists are great, but I can't post to them. How should I proceed now? I would contact Twitter, but I suspect it's just like facebook, and all I'll get is automated replies and references to Help files. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.
They actually read the emails. Your account may be automatically suspended if it gets blocked by too many people. There also may be other factors (spam reports, too many mentions etc.).
Thanks for your quick response! The account has been reinstated. I just need to know how to proceed without being suspended again. How many tweets per day to other users - are these mentions? How to get unblocked, if that's the problem? From what I've read, you can even get in trouble for sending messages to your OWN FOLLOWERS. How's a guy to proceed if he wants exposure??
I'd say ZERO unsolicited tweets. If anyone does that to me they get reported asap. Hit a few people like me and you'll be banned again. You need to build your twitter community "organically" by interacting with people, drop the links to your page/youtube account etc but don't add people's names if they've shown no prior interest in you. I have a pretty static twitter account that is for a very small, defined niche. The account was created to protect the username and isn't actively used. I'm always amused by the people who opt to follow the account despite clearly having no interest in the niche. Keep following people if you want, but it doesn't reflect well upon you.
If you dont want an automated answer then keep replying back. After a while someone reads your post and they would answer you. so keep replying to their automated replies as well.
Thanks guys. I'm a total beginner in Twitter. Do I organically interact and drop links by replying to tweets in their tweetstream (if that's what it's called) and somehow work my links into the conversation? Thanks.
Yes, but ultimately you are "selling" yourself first so interact on a personal level and don't be too anxious about dropping those links. Once you are known and have built credibility people will be interested in what you are up to and you'll be able to broadcast your progress. Think about how the world works with real people. Lets say I started a new job and caught the bus to work. I'm at the bus stop with a dozen other people. Every morning I turn up and tap people on the shoulder and say "I work at XYZ" - pretty soon people will start avoiding me, even the ones I haven't actually talked to. Or I turn up and join a conversation grumbling about how the bus is always late, or praising the driver for always being cheerful. The chatter moves on to kids and which local schools they are at and eventually someone asks where everyone works and everyone listens and asks appropriate questions. Down the line you get a big promotion. The first guy won't have anyone interested in hearing his big news. The second guy can turn up and make it the first thing he says because he already has a rapport with the others and they care about him. Which guy do you want to be?
Great analogy! Thanks for all your help. That really clarifies it for me. I'll definitely go that route. Do we have a rapport? Would you like to hear my music, or is this an inappropriate place to share.? I had to try. Thanks again, Bruce
Hi @bloeff Bruce, I think it would be better if you share it in the General Chat Section under Movies, Music & TV https://forums.digitalpoint.com/forums/general-chat.19/ As for reaching more people with your music, just continue to tweet great stuff, promote your website/page/youtube channel/soundcloud channel once in a while through it, follow others who you are interested in, retweet things from the people you follow that are related to your interest, and on top of it--get to know your followers.
