I'm looking at the Magento site. And I have questions. 1. How do I know which version to download? It has one .zip and two different .tar versions. 2. Is it free? 3. Can I put it on any hosting server (i.e. Dreamhost, Godaddy)? 4. Can I put it on Wordpress?
Community edition, its free, zip is fine if you dont know what a tar file is, you can stick it on most hosts and you can integrate wordpress with it if need be but we are talking about 2 entirely different things here. Wordpress integration if you require a blog is here http://fishpig.co.uk/magento/wordpress-integration/ hope that helps, Nigel
1. You can go for the .zip format of the latest stable version. Or with most hosting providers, there are autoinstaller tools, so you can install it in just a few clicks. 2. Yes, the Community Version is free, as you may have seen, although they have a paid, Enterprise version and there are some major differences between the two. 3. As per the server requirements, its best if you go for Linux Hosting, otherwize most shared environments would be able to handle it, without too much hustle. 4. Indeed there is a plugin to integrate WP in Magento, but in general they are two stand-alone scripts, both with its main purposes and extra functionalities on top of that. Hope that helps
Sorry that was a tad snarky. I reckon its not safe to assume folks know better than to rent a winpoop server lol.. Welcome to DP as well. Nigel
One thing I was told on my Day 1 of being a young, green trainee in the hosting business, many years ago - "Assumption is the mother of all f**k-ups". Excuse the language, its just something that stuck in my head since then No harm done tho, cheers
you need to be careful when choosing a hosting company for magento. unless they are specifically optimized for magento hosting - chances are the site's performance (ie speed) can be very bad. i would recommend a host like nexcess - http://www.nexcess.net/magento-hosting ps. they would also handle installing magento for you...
While I typically tune my own machines, that is entirely accurate. Those folks kick some serious ass. They are a very helpful bunch. Nigel
Please contact to http://www.psdtomagentodeveloper.com/ Here you can find the solutions for your all questions. There are many experts who can help you for any kind of problem.
I would also vouch for Nexcess, especially if you're going to need a lot of technical help. The entire staff really knows their stuff and will be able to help you with a lot of the heavy lifting.
There is a free version that you can use but it comes with limitations on plugins and designing. However, you can simply download a free zip compatible with your operating system. There are many blogs that will help you with the setup. Free version on WordPress is difficult as they both are a stand-alone tools, though there are plugins that you can use.
