Not sure exactly about the rules regarding your comments SiteExpress but I do agree about what you have said, it seems many directories will do what ever it takes to try and get in a winning position
I really do not see anything wrong with placing a sitewide listing in your own site to a page that is on your site. It is no different then placing a sitewide link in your directory to say a popular links page. Some of the directories that have entered have sitewide listings to their contest page as well, but are still no where to be on found in the first few pages. The directories with the most overall power will stay ahead I think, but then again google could do a 360 and change everything.
That may be true but the contest is meant to find the most effective directory - so the listings should be treated the same as any other (in it's class). I have a sig link here to help the indexing - but I don't do that for every entry in my directory do I. And, no, it's nowhere to be seen in the serps either but that's cool ... I'll get there
Look at from this point, and I think all directories should do this, and that is pointing links to your inner pages, that is what makes any site whether it is a directory or not rank higher and much more powerful. The same rings true for this contest, if you do not send links to your inner pages then chances of that page ranking for any keyword is going to be very slim, with that said I think it is good to see other directories sending more links to their inner pages. We need more powerful directories that provide overall value, instead of just a bunch of directories that only have high pr.
I wonder how many of the directories here allow deeplinks from other directories? Because I'm guessing when you talk about pointing links you're talking about external links, right? I certainly don't like them although they're ok from regular sites.
There are a few that allow deep links from other directories but not many. And yes I mean deep links from other sites. Directories that do not allow deep linking are missing out imo. I think the prob is that most directory owners are not skilled in seo so that they may not see the true value in doing this. Everyone talks about traffic from directories, but just like any other kind of site most of your traffic will come from search engines which is how it should be and is where most of my traffic comes from.
Detail page from fatinfo on page 5 and climbing. Only the fifth day since putting in the entry. Good luck to everyone.
