Has anyone here ever dealt with smithlan from these forums? I sent him $600 for one and he never sent me the invite and has ignored me after numerous Emails and PMs. I sent him the money via paypal about 5 days ago and am going to have to do a chargeback. Just wondering if anyone here ever dealt with him before. Also want to warn people to not do business with him.

You actually can't help it. This is the problem with Paypal, they cannot help you since the goods are virtual, i.e. intangible, and hence not covered under Paypal Buyer protection Policy.
Learn from this lesson, and beware of such transactions.
I don't think you should go for a chargeback, because this transaction involves dealing in something which is illegal. Yes, buying and selling of YPN invite is illegal, and hence you could face liabilities.

You are incorrect. PayPal cannot protect the SELLER. You don't even need to initiate a chargeback (But I would advise it) rather just claim your goods as "Not Received".

I get people who purchase my software at least once a week claiming a "Non Received" case and most of the time they win. (If I ship a CD with it on it, I win)

you can definitely report him with his YPN ID or account or watever to yahoo. just look through his site and find out what his YPN ID is and report him to yahoo. maybe it would help a little

Regardless of what paypal says just call your credit card company or bank directly. Tell them you got scammed, they'll issue you a credit and charge paypal back which in turn will charge the scammer back. His paypal account will be negative.

Yes, the person isn't verified I have been dealing with paypal for over 5 years now and people always put disputes in on me and win on virtual items. People have also done chargebacks of 6 months service on me and got their money back with no problem. Paypal just collects the fee and say how they tried to fight the chargeback but didn't win. I'm pretty confident I can get my money back since I used a credit card. I will try a claim and if that doesn't work will do a chargeback. I'm just warning people on this forum of him.

What lesson is there to be learned from trusting people too much ?

The crook, if he is indeed that has to learn a lesson and I would report

it to the cc company and tarnish his name as much as possible everywhere.

I admit that I shouldn't have been buying a YPN invite in the first place as it goes against Yahoos TOS but I was in need of one asap and couldn't wait that long to be invited. This does not give people the right to say that they have an invite and sell things they don't have.

Actually, then the best thing, would be to file the dispute, and then if you can't get your money back, you should initiate the charge back.

definately get your money back - but there is absolutely nothing illegal about buying an invite as scamsky said. there are no laws about this. it is merely a violation of tos. since your not even part of ypn, you arent even violating that as you never agreed to them either.

hope you learned your lesson though and hope that others read these posts and learn something as well. i doubt you will have a problem getting your money back if you follow some of the quality advice you have already gotten.

Yes, actually by "illegal", I meant, violating the TOS.

Get your money back if you can...and never try to buy a YPN account again, its against TOS...btw, they have locked the tax information stuff so you probably wouldn't be able to change it and therefore would be useless to you anyway...

YPN Account can not be trasfered to any other name according to TOS!! Read it.

Why they terminate account if someone buy that way then?? its against TOS..anything against TOS is illegal i believe.

    Thanks
