I'd go with Magento. I understand you might be ignorant to it and might be overwhelming. The fact is, once you learn the backend of it, it's easy. There's a reason why Magento is rated #1 in review in eCommerce platforms. Start learning the hiearchy of doing things as well as learning the blocks. It isn't that hard but I do also have 10 years of Internet marketing and Programming experience.
Magento -- Super recommended if you are a big fish, or at least want to be soon. But like everything in Mangento, it's SEO is also a little (a bit more little) difficult than others. About its scalability and its robustness -- You can blindly bank on that, you can blindly bet on that.
As i am also in confusion to choose which is best.. Finally My vote is for Magento . why because. 1. Lot of Extenctions & themes to choose (Free/paid) 2. You can run Vendor matketplace using plugins (i am not sure about opencart ) 3. It can Handle huge traffic. 4. You can find dedicated Magento hosting companies which uses optimized technologies to run your site faster. 5.Used my most of thee-commerce sites (try /admin for the sites you know to know which CMS they are using)
Hi magento is not free but opencart is free. In Opencart you can experiment with it see if it suits your needs then decide. best of luck for your venture.
Opencart is the best as it already comes with so many inbuilt modules and features that an ecommerce websites need, it loads faster than other cms and easy to manage, also have so many theme or templates in opencart official site, templatecinderella, themeforest available to give a professional look to the site, I have personally used many premium themes for my clients and they never had any complaints. But I would always recommend, use it for yourself before using this for you clients.
I'm agree with this lady. But also want to suggest Prestashop. It's so powerful to handle a traffic and also having all required features with attractive themes.
I would definitely recommend Opencart for being easy friendly, simplier, lighter, faster, feature rich.
Magento is the best option if you are going to build an eCommerce site. It has the capability to handle big sites very easily. Has large potential for scalability.
I recently discovered prestashop to be a very good alternative, its more good than opencart is some aspects.
I'd recommed checking out 3dCart and BigCommerce. They're two very easy to use, out-of-the-box eCommerce solutions that a LOT of people really enjoy using. Both have really nice-looking themes, and Bigcommerce has especially been serious about offering very nice, mobile-responsive themes to their sellers. This is HUGE, given the crazy numbers that the industry is seeing in terms of mobile shopping.
I would suggest to go for magento if you are looking into a big platform otherwise if you are going to target a small one then you can opt opencart. Basic difference between Magento and OpenCart are:- Template options in Magento is very extensive than in OpenCart. Magento supports multi store handling but OpenCard does not. OpenCart is less SEO friendly than Magento. Magento has ability to show product comparison and wish list, Which is missing in OpenCart. Magento offers wide range of reports for every action but OpenCart offers only sales report. OpenCart is more cost effective platform than Magento.
I would go with Joomla + J2Store. Magento is most often an overkill. Just to complex for most clients' needs. Joomla + J2Store is easy to and easy on the users, one page checkout etc.administer.
Magento and OpenCart have some similar advantages and features: Both are open source ecommerce platforms, neither limit users Both are popular and have huge developer communities for support Both are developed in PHP Both are global ecommerce platforms supporting multiple languages and most currencies Both are resource rich with add on products and plugins Both use templates to upload products and can be maintained by non-programmers Open Cart is great for start-ups and speed to market. It provides a powerful ecommerce shopping cart and great tools with a minimal investment. [source - vtldesign]

Hello, If you want to run store on small scale opencart is good option but if you want to scale to 1,00,000+ products or lots of visits on website then magento is better. It has special servers available to manage its load and you can find best team for it. It has big library available to integrate with lots of platforms like payment gateway, account system, shipping system etc.
