New Site, Tons of Publicity, Good Revenue

Discussion in 'Sites' started by Yeldarb, Dec 7, 2006.

The site for sale is Docx-Converter.com (also the domain docxconvert.com)

    About
It is a custom made script that converts the new default Word 2007 format to a text file. Useful because there are no official readers or plugins available yet for OS X or Linux.

    Publicity
The site launched about 36 hours ago and has gotten major publicity including:
    A Digg Frontpage
    A Lifehacker Post
    A Popular Del.icio.us Link
    A Wired.com Blog Post
    And tons of other links.

    Stats
    Here are the Awstats:
    http://www.scriptscribbler.com/awstats/cgi-bin/awstats.pl?config=docx-converter.com
(Please don't abuse the "Update Now" link and kill the server)

    Revenue
With the Google Adsense on the page, the site made $26.37 yesterday (it's first day open)
Today so far it has made $4.27.

The traffic will probably not continue to be at these levels. I haven't paid for any advertising; the links have been viral. The only things I did in way of marketing were post on 2 forums and submit the digg (it got to the frontpage on its own accord). The interest is definitely there, though and the site fills a need.

    Costs
    2 Domain names (docx-converter.com and docxconvert.com)
Hosting (minimal cost, just need a host that will allow the php to run [and the exec() function in PHP to execute. Dreamhost is working well)
    $20 to a designer
I programmed the script myself (all rights will go to you)

Go ahead and start the bidding at whatever level you want.
I have a reserve in mind.

The auction will end in 48 hours.

LOL the guy made $30 in 2 days. Even if it's bullshit, it doesn't matter. He hasn't got anything significant to show, he's been totally upfront about the traffic not lasting because obviously it's Digg/Social traffic peaking, what's left to see proof of?

    Here's the adsense screenshot:

The CTR is pretty good. Which amazed me since most of my traffic was from Digg (and Digg users are notorious for ignoring ads)

It's Word 2007 .docx files (the new Microsoft Open Office XML Format); this won't work with regular .doc files.
