i use aol for dial up when im away from home with no internet!
and my kaspersky expired and was gonna try aols free safety center
    with
    AOL® Virus Protection
    AOL® Firewall
    AOL® Spyware Protection
i think its mcafee powered firewall and virus scan

then I read the policy and it says this

    WHat is a web beacon?
is it just a spider that crawls the pages that i go to?

should i be skared of this policy?
    or AOL?
    heres the whole thing
    http://about.aol.com/aolnetwork/mem_policy

any 1 got any good free virus scan recomendations??

pack.google.com has two fine products AdAware, Norton AntiVirus for free updated regularly.

AOL is a genius at marketing, but their service is horrible. AOL is living proof that marketing is everything. The owners of AOL could serve you a plate of sh-t and have you go for seconds ;)

I will never install/use norton again!
honestly would rather no virus protection &
    Just HYJack this logs
    Than norton

yea i still use aol!when i need to connect to the net and got no wifi etc!
I removed all aol from my laptop about a year ago! Everything! cuz the new 9.0 update gave me some issues! so i was like eF this! Ill just check my aol mail at aol.com! and use trillian! witch i did for about a year! but i didnt like those methods! about a month ago i reinstalled aol and uninstalled trillian and haven't had any problems!
    but i got a 3ghz 1 1/2g ram laptop!
I don't like how aol installs all kinds of stuff when you install!
i remove all the bs after install
it should give you a advance install option where you can only install the what is needed to connect via dial up!and nothing else!maybe aim with no ads for paid users!NO ADs!
I think now that aol offers free service that the paid service will get alot better! I HOPE
i have been reporting my claims to AOL with good feedback and personal reply's saying they agree with my issue and will make sure its is addressed etc.

Yes they are and the New Free service is brilliant The best move they have made!and it kinda made me mad!the paid users rates go up and then they offer the same service Free - the connection! That was the main thing i liked about aol i can get on where there is no connection just a phone line!
i can live without their software and mail system!AIM is nyce tho!
but they need to make it cheaper and better features for the paid service like no ads no auto delete mail.advance instal of software!

Try cancelling their services, they will throw so much free stuff at you ... saying no is going to be hard ;) (I am a recovering ex AOLler)

I'm still trying to wean my in-laws from it's vile grasp, but it's hard to change people set in their ways. Get rid of it now. There is nothing they can offer you that you can't get elsewhere for less and with higher quality.

As for your question, a web beacon is a small invisible image (usually 1x1) that can reveal all kinds of details about a user when used in conjunction with cookies. They are more common than you probably realize.
