What if Google PageRank update is cancelled?

This will be the worst possible news for the Newbies who have just started their career as bloggers. When I started, the very first thing I heard about was Google PageRank. I had a habit of checking my page rank very often, even though I knew that there are no PR updates. For me having my first PR update will be something like a victory and a motivation to carry on my work. If there are no PR update then all their efforts will surely be a waste and will thus make them sad and they may even quit blogging.

People dealing with SEO and webmasters will now have a topic for discussion and it may even lead to research and analysis on Google’s strategy and what they are up to.;)

I haven't had a PR tool on my browser for more then a year. PR means nothing now.

There are so many other legit factors to judge a site on.

I would rather use SeoMoz authority as a indicator than the Google PR.

It probably stays the same... the only different part will be that Google won't put a number on your website... :)

It won't be the "worst possible news for newbies", far from it. Pagerank has largely lost its important in recent years- only link sellers are still concerned about it.

We will just continue blogging and doing SEO. PR is nothing unless you think of selling your website or something like this! Work on your SEO and boost your sales! :)

Traffic is most important than PR for a blog or website. Traffic means more visitors. For it, try to do quality SEO for your blog.

Page rank can still be important in some cases, for example if selling guest posts constitutes a significant part of the site's earnings. As long as there are people who choose sites to publish their guest posts in on the basis of PR and/or are willing to pay more for publishing on a high PR site, it will matter.

When they update PR, hopefully it will carry more meaning and translate in rankings.

A lot of PR0-1 outrank PR3+. Why? What's the point of PR if that's the case?

Hopefully(lots of hoping, huh?) the PR update will be a measure of quality instead of alleged quality. I have no idea how they expect to track that though as every single update has not affected SEO work at all beyond cutting down newbies and the dumb spammers that follow the crowd.

duh? They update PR every day and factor that into the rankings every day!!! Does not look good for your credibility that you sell SEO services and don't know that!

All that has happened this yr is that the pipeline to export that internal PR to the toolbar is broken and Google are not giving any great priority to fix it this yr.

...You are aware PR as a metric isn't being updated for the rest of the year, right?

Before you try to put the competition down, do your homework.

    So transparent...

Nonsense. Google update it internally EVERY SINGLE DAY and they factor that into the search results EVERY SINGLE DAY. Which bit of that do you not get?

All that is happening is that the pipeline to export that PR to the toolbar is broken. They can't send an update to the toolbar due to coding issues. They simply are not giving any priority to fix it. When they do, there will be NO change in the rankings, as they factor the new PR in to the results every day. Which but of that do you not get?
You obviously have not done yours.

Just about everything you said is wrong.

edit: lol so transparent. But thanks for allowing me to keep posting. I also don't use "the toolbar" to get PR.

nope. I will type this slowing as you are not getting it.

Here is the announcement from Google about the pipleine to update the toolbar being broken:
    http://searchengineland.com/pagerank-pipeline-broken-174926

Google have been updating PR internally every day for a very long time now - at east since 2005. You obviously missed that one as well.
Heaps of references and citations on that one: eg http://www.rainbodesign.com/seo-tips/google-pagerank.php

PR will still play a role in Google's algo, but just like all the "not provided" keywords in your analytics, they are working to make old school SEO less attractive. Removing the ability for SEOs to see actual PR is just another step in that direction. Bear in mind that Google now looks at so many other factors such as bounce rate, time on site, freshness, etc that you really shouldn't pay attention to any single metric anyhow. Focus your efforts on creating good content on well designed and properly coded websites. Pursue all your reasonable marketing avenues, social media, guest blogging, press releases for major news, etc and you will be just fine. Unless of course you suck at marketing, then this gig isn't for you.

Indeed, you should listen to Confucius.

lol you think I listen to Google? edit: I didn't go to the link. Everyone knows they update their PR, because they're updating PR. Take English classes, maybe? I hope no one buys from you. Goodness.

I already got a sale from clicks on this thread.

Re-read my first post until it makes sense.

    And thanks again!

Anyone can see that your first post is wrong. I obviously did not type my posts slow enough for you to get it.

Can you provide any credible third party sources that show what I am posting is wrong?
